India Secures 3-0 Victory Over Bangladesh in Men’s Badminton at Asian Games 2026

India achieved a commanding 3-0 win against Bangladesh in the men’s badminton team event at the Asian Games 2026. The triumph began with Lakshya Sen, who faced Ayman Ibn Jaman in the first match. Sen dominated the contest, winning decisively with scores of 21-4 and 21-12, thereby giving India an early lead of 1-0.

Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth Contribute to Victory

Extending India’s advantage, Ayush Shetty delivered a strong performance in the second match against Gourab Singha. Shetty secured victory in straight sets, winning 21-4 and 21-13. With India now requiring only one more win to clinch the contest, experienced player Kidambi Srikanth stepped in for the final match against Al Amin Jumar.

Srikanth maintained his composure and control, achieving victory with scores of 21-15 and 21-9. This final win ensured India’s 3-0 sweep, making additional doubles matches unnecessary. The result not only highlighted the skill of the Indian players but also secured their advance to the quarterfinals of the men’s team event.

India’s Overall Performance at the Asian Games

The success in badminton was part of a remarkable day for Indian athletes at the Asian Games. In addition to badminton, India excelled in other sports, collecting medals in shooting and mixed martial arts, among others. The men’s shooting team struck gold with Himanshu Dhillon winning a silver medal and Rudrankksh Patil claiming bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual final, demonstrating notable prowess in shooting events.

The men’s 10m air rifle team also secured silver, showcasing teamwork as Parth Mane, alongside Patil and Dhillon, contributed to the podium finish. During the individual qualifications, Patil displayed excellent form, finishing third, while Dhillon qualified in seventh position.

In mixed martial arts, Suchika Tariyal earned a bronze medal in the women’s traditional 60kg category following a semifinal loss to Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s hockey team recorded a remarkable 17-1 victory over Indonesia, signalling a strong performance in the group stage of their competition.

Diverse Sports Successes on Display

The Indian men’s kabaddi team also showcased their strength with a commanding 49-23 win over Japan in their Group A match. In boxing, Sumit progressed to the next round after defeating Bunjong Sinsiri in the men’s 70kg Round of 32 bout, while the women’s table tennis team secured a 3-0 victory against Pakistan in Group F.

In swimming, Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke final, further adding to India’s successes, although fellow swimmers Mani Akash and Gitesh Shah were unable to qualify for their events. The competitors in skeet shooting delivered varied results, with Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan concluding their first day in ninth, 14th, and 16th places, respectively.

Lastly, performances continued in other combat sports, where Nyeman Wangsu finished in 15th place in the women’s Changquan final. As the Indian sepaktakraw team faced Japan in Group B, they unfortunately faced defeat, adding to the day’s dynamic and competitive atmosphere across the sporting events at the Asian Games.
