India and Serbia completed the ninth round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Belgrade on March 25. The discussions were led by Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs representing India, while the Serbian delegation was chaired by Damjan Jovic, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This high-level engagement aimed to enhance cooperation and explore new avenues for partnership between the two nations.

During his visit, Ambassador Sibi George met with Marko Djuric, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia. Their discussion centered on strengthening existing ties and identified potential areas for extending bilateral collaboration. The emphasis was on fostering a deeper relationship built on the historic connections between the people of India and Serbia.

Focus Areas of Cooperation

The consultations provided a comprehensive framework for reviewing the current state of bilateral relations. Key topics included trade and economic cooperation, defense, scientific and technological advancements, Fintech, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. Both sides recognized the importance of enhancing people-to-people interactions as part of their collaborative efforts.

In addition to bilateral discussions, both delegations exchanged perspectives on regional and global matters of shared interest. This dialogue reflects the commitment of India and Serbia to engage in meaningful discourse on significant international challenges.

Interaction with the Indian Diaspora

As part of his itinerary, Ambassador Sibi George took the opportunity to connect with the Indian diaspora residing in Serbia. This engagement underscores India’s focus on its overseas community and the value placed on their contributions to strengthening ties between India and Serbia.
