“I Strangled Her, Wrapped Body In Blanket”: UP Man Kills Wife, Surrenders in Police Station

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident gripped Kanpur on Saturday morning when a 22-year-old man, identified as Sachin, walked into Maharajpur police station in tears and confessed, “Sir… I have strangled my wife. Her body is lying at home wrapped in a blanket.” Police immediately took him into custody and rushed to his rented room, where they recovered the body of his wife, Shweta.

Couple Married Against Families’ Wishes

Sachin and Shweta, originally from Mohanpur village in Fatehpur district, had eloped and married through a court marriage, defying family opposition. Initially, the couple moved to Surat, where Sachin worked in a factory. A month later, they shifted to Kanpur and rented a room while Sachin began driving an auto-rickshaw for a living. Reports suggest that tensions in the relationship were escalating due to growing mistrust.

Suspicion Triggers Fatal Argument

Police said Sachin had become increasingly suspicious of Shweta. He questioned frequent deposits in her bank account, which she claimed came from her grandmother, and distrusted male students living opposite their rented home. On Friday, Sachin reportedly devised a plan to test his suspicions.

He called his wife and lied that he was at a party. Returning unexpectedly, he allegedly found Shweta in the company of two young men from the neighborhood, sparking a heated argument.

Murder Committed in Rage

Although police were called to mediate the dispute and advised the couple to reconcile, the argument escalated at home. Sachin later claimed that Shweta threatened him, saying she would stay with the men even if he killed her. Enraged, Sachin strangled her to death. Following the crime, he wandered the city for about four hours, ultimately reaching Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) before deciding to surrender to authorities.

Following the murder, Sachin fled to the Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) area and sat there for several hours. “I thought about how we had no one else, we eloped and got married for each other,” he told the police. “Now she has no one, and neither do I. So I went to the police station and surrendered,” he added.

Investigation Underway

Shweta’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the murder, including the allegations of suspicion and prior conflicts between the couple. Sachin reportedly expressed remorse, saying he was haunted by the fact that they had eloped together and now both had no support from their families.
