Handler of Bangladesh Terror Module Maintained Regular Contact through Encrypted Messaging: Delhi Police Sources

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sources from the Delhi Police have disclosed that the handler of a recently uncovered Bangladeshi terror network maintained frequent communication with operatives using the encrypted messaging platform Signal. The handler, identified as Shabbir, is alleged to have orchestrated several activities aimed at spreading anti-India sentiments, as evidenced by the appearance of posters in Delhi and Kolkata.

Operational Details of the Module

Investigators revealed that the posters, which promoted anti-India ideologies, were printed in Kolkata after the relevant PDF files were sent from Bangladesh by Shabbir. According to police sources, this Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked module established a base in Kolkata under Shabbir’s guidance, renting a residence on the outskirts of the city for approximately Rs 8,000 monthly. The handler reportedly transferred a sum exceeding Rs 80,000 to facilitate the acquisition of firearms, with additional financial support anticipated for ongoing operations.

Key Contacts and Arrests

Umar Farooq from Malda was noted as the primary point of contact with the handler. Officials also indicated plans by Shabbir to transport six Bangladeshi nationals apprehended in Tamil Nadu back to Kolkata. The objective was to execute terror operations and subsequently return all seven operatives across the border to Bangladesh. Ongoing investigations are scrutinizing these developments.

Recent Arrests Linked to Terror Plot

On the preceding Sunday, law enforcement apprehended eight individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, who are believed to be orchestrating a significant terrorist plot in Tamil Nadu. Their activities were reportedly directed by elements affiliated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Bangladeshi terrorist factions. Previously, six individuals—Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal—were taken into custody in Tamil Nadu before being moved to Delhi for further questioning.

Seizure of Evidence

During the operation, investigators recovered several mobile phones and SIM cards from the accused. The individuals were allegedly engaged in posting content that supported terrorist organizations based in Pakistan on social media platforms. The arrests included two suspects from Uthukuli, three from Palladam, and one from the Thirumuruganpoondi area. Reports indicate that they were employed in the garment industry while using false Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities. In total, eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards were confiscated.

Investigative Steps and Future Actions

The arrested suspects are believed to have conducted reconnaissance in multiple cities, including efforts to distribute posters advocating for “Free Kashmir” in Delhi. Subsequently, two additional arrests were made in West Bengal. The Delhi Police are currently working to transport all individuals apprehended in Tamil Nadu back to the national capital for further investigation into their activities and connections.
