Ghaziabad’s All-Women Police Team’s First Encounter Ends in Arrest of Wanted Criminal

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a significant milestone for law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh, an all-women police team in Ghaziabad carried out their first-ever armed encounter, resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old wanted criminal. The incident took place late at night near the Lohia Nagar police chowki during a routine patrol conducted by officers from the Women’s Police Station.

The accused, identified as Jitendra, a resident of Vijay Nagar’s Koop Wali Gali, had multiple cases registered against him, including theft, snatching, and robbery across the Delhi-NCR region.

Attempted Escape Ends in Gunfire

According to senior officials, Jitendra was riding a two-wheeler when he was flagged down by the patrolling team near Meerut Road. Instead of stopping, he reversed direction and attempted to flee. During the chase, he lost control of his vehicle and fell. When officers ordered him to surrender, he opened fire on the police.

The police responded with retaliatory gunfire, injuring Jitendra in the leg. He was quickly subdued, arrested on the spot, and taken to the MMG District Hospital for medical treatment.

Recovered Items Include Stolen Electronics

Upon arrest, police recovered a country-made pistol (.315 bore) with both live and empty cartridges from Jitendra. Along with the firearm, a stolen scooter, a mobile phone, and a tablet were seized. Investigations later confirmed that the scooter had been stolen from Delhi the previous year, while the phone and tablet were reported stolen from a residence in Crossing Republic just a day before the encounter.

Accused Confesses to Series of Thefts

During interrogation, Jitendra admitted to using stolen two-wheelers for executing snatching operations across the region. He revealed that the looted items were sold cheaply to fund his personal hobbies. His confession has helped police link him to multiple open cases of street crime in the NCR area.

Jitendra also expressed remorse for firing at the officers, claiming he acted out of fear and did not intend to harm anyone.

Landmark Moment for Women in Policing

This marks the first time an all-women police team in Ghaziabad has led an armed operation resulting in the successful arrest of an armed criminal. Officials praised the courage and swift action of the female officers involved, calling it a significant step in empowering women in law enforcement roles.
