Five Railway Personnel Suspended Following Assault on Deputy Superintendent

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent dispute at Agra Cantt station over the stopping of the Hirakund Express for an injured passenger escalated into a confrontation involving various railway departments. A Deputy Station Superintendent has reported being assaulted by personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF). In response, the Railways has suspended five RPF members and initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident.

The altercation occurred during the scheduled halt of the Hirakund Express and caused significant disruption at the station, attracting considerable attention from passengers and railway staff. According to railway sources, tensions heightened after it was confirmed that a passenger had sustained injuries.

The Deputy Station Superintendent made the decision to keep the train at the platform to ensure the injured passenger received necessary assistance. This decision allegedly sparked a heated dispute with the RPF personnel present at the station.

Mutual Assault Allegations Emerge

The Deputy Station Superintendent has alleged that he was physically assaulted by RPF officers during the incident. He claims he was forcefully pushed to the ground and subjected to further attacks, as he was allegedly dragged away from the station. Witnesses reported that he was lifted by his arms and legs despite intervention from other railway officials, who deemed such actions inappropriate and unjustifiable.

Conversely, RPF constable Jitendra has levelled accusations against the Deputy Station Superintendent, suggesting that he was also aggressive during the encounter. This mutual exchange of allegations has complicated the investigation, prompting the authorities to rely on CCTV footage from the station to clarify the events that transpired.

The conflicting narratives have raised significant concerns within the railway community, as both sides assert that they were victims of aggression. With investigations underway, officials are working to ascertain the details of the clash and the actions taken by various personnel involved.

Railways Takes Immediate Action

In response to the serious nature of the incident, the Railways established a three-member inquiry committee on July 12. This committee comprises the Assistant Security Commissioner (ASC), the Station Director of Agra Cantt, and the Assistant Operations Manager (AOM), Agra. Their mandate is to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

The preliminary findings led to the suspension of five RPF personnel, including Inspector Surendra Chaudhary, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Meghraj Meena and Balkishan, along with constables Jitendra and Badan Singh, effective immediately. This decision was communicated through the official railway WhatsApp media group to ensure transparency in the disciplinary measures taken.

The inquiry committee is now in the process of gathering evidence and conducting interviews related to the incident. The outcome of this inquiry will determine the appropriate departmental and legal actions that may be required. It is anticipated that the investigation will clarify the motivations behind the confrontation and evaluate whether any officials overstepped their authority during the clash.
