In yet another alarming incident involving wildlife on school grounds, a first-grade student at Mitra Institution was bitten by a snake inside his classroom on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Tollygunge resident Dripta Pal, was rushed to SSKM Hospital following the incident, which occurred between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. According to hospital sources, blood tests confirmed snake venom in his system, though his condition is currently stable.

Incident Details and Safety Concerns

Family members reported that the child was playing inside the classroom when the snake struck his left hand. Prompt action by school teachers ensured the boy was immediately transported to the emergency ward.

The incident has raised serious safety concerns among parents regarding how a venomous reptile managed to enter an active classroom. Expressing her shock, the child’s mother noted that the school premises are generally well-maintained and lack dense vegetation, making the appearance of a snake entirely unexpected.

Rising Concerns Over School Safety

This marks the second reported snake bite incident in a Kolkata educational institution recently. Only weeks prior, a third-grade student at The Heritage School was bitten by a roughly 1.5-foot-long snake inside a campus restroom during the afternoon.

With two separate incidents occurring within a short span, questions are mounting over campus safety protocols and pest management in schools across the city.
