Motihari, Bihar witnessed a horrifying incident in Bhoptapur where an elderly woman was brutally assaulted after being accused of witchcraft. The incident reportedly occurred following the death of a local youth in Gujarat, with the accused alleging that the woman had caused his death through black magic. This baseless superstition led to severe physical and mental abuse of the victim.

Brutal Assault and Degrading Treatment

According to the victim, the accused subjected her to merciless beating, resulting in serious injuries, including a broken tooth. Shockingly, she was also forced to ingest fecal matter, and filth was thrown on her body. The assault took place publicly in the village, but no one intervened to stop the attack.

Denial of Medical Help

Following the attack, the victim approached Motihari Sadar Hospital for treatment. However, hospital staff reportedly refused to treat her due to the filth on her body. She was compelled to seek treatment at a private hospital, where she finally received medical care.

Even after receiving treatment, the woman faced apathy at Bhoptapur police station. Her complaints were allegedly ignored, and no formal application was accepted, leaving her frustrated and helpless.

SP Intervenes After Public Hearing

Finally, the elderly woman brought her case to the Superintendent of Police (SP) during the Janata Darbar. SP Swarn Prabhat took immediate notice, calling the matter extremely serious. The SP directed the local police to register an FIR promptly and arrest the accused. Authorities assured strict legal action against those responsible.
