Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has initiated a comprehensive reform of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which includes the removal of 600 experts from its team. This decision comes as part of an effort to enhance the integrity and efficiency of the examination systems managed by the NTA.
Following a recent meeting, the Minister has mandated the establishment of a four-tier system for checking question papers. This new system is designed to reinforce the scrutiny process of examination content prior to its deployment in assessments.
The NTA has reported that the restructured examination team will incorporate both the removal and onboarding of professionals, aimed at refreshing expertise within the agency. This reorganisation is intended to address longstanding concerns regarding examination integrity.
Enhanced Security and Infrastructure Measures
As part of the reforms, Minister Joshi has emphasised the necessity of strengthening security measures and improving related infrastructure to facilitate the smooth conduct of examinations. NTA will initiate various security enhancements at its facilities.
Plans to relocate the NTA’s offices have been announced, with a focus on prompt execution. The shift will see the involvement of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) teams to bolster security at the new locations.
Additionally, it was revealed that the agency aims to recruit between 20 to 25 officials over the next two to three weeks. This staffing initiative is part of a broader review intended to ensure the operational efficiency of the NTA.
Continuous Commitment to Examination Integrity
The ongoing measures taken by the NTA signify a commitment to maintaining transparency and security in exam administration. Known for conducting key entrance and eligibility examinations, including the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the NTA plays a crucial role in the educational landscape.
The agency has also outlined its current procurement needs, highlighting requirements for enhanced security services, computer-based examination systems, CCTV surveillance, and examination monitoring processes. These listings underscore a systematic approach towards reinforcing the agency’s examination infrastructure.
It is noteworthy that while these measures have been announced, they represent planned actions rather than immediate implementations. The success of the four-tier question paper checking system and further enhancements to staffing and security will depend on effective execution and continuous monitoring over time.
