DMK Worker Arrested for Alleged Rape & Murder of 2-Year-Old Girl in Tamil Nadu

The CSR Journal Magazine

A member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has been apprehended on charges of raping and murdering the two-and-a-half-year-old daughter of his live-in partner in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, according to police reports.

The accused, identified as Periyanayagam, is 40 years old and was living with 24-year-old Princy, who is currently estranged from her husband Surya. The incident reportedly took place in the absence of the child’s mother, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Background of the Victim and Family

The victim was the daughter of Princy, a resident of Anchetty village. Following marital discord, Princy had moved in with her mother while Surya, her estranged husband, continued to visit to see their daughter. On February 11, the child experienced a seizure and subsequently lost consciousness, prompting her mother to take her to a private hospital. Unfortunately, medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival.

Investigation Reveals Suspicious Circumstances

Surya, suspecting foul play in his daughter’s death, filed a complaint with the local police, which led to an investigation. A post-mortem examination uncovered injuries to the child’s private parts, indicating possible sexual assault. This raised serious concerns regarding the condition and safety of the victim in the care of Periyanayagam.

Legal Proceedings Initiated Against the Accused

Authorities arrested Periyanayagam as part of the ongoing investigation. He is now facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. As the inquiry progresses, police officials are looking deeper into the relationship dynamics and circumstances that led to this tragic event.

Political Reactions to the Incident

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The party issued a statement questioning the ruling DMK government’s ability to ensure the safety of women and children, calling the situation a clear indication of administrative failure. They raised concerns about who is responsible for oversight in such grave matters and suggested that the government has lost its moral right to govern.

Future Investigations and Community Impact

Law enforcement continues to investigate further details surrounding the case, examining any potential motives and the involvement of other parties. The community has expressed outrage over the incident, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced safety measures and legal protections for vulnerable populations, particularly children. The case is expected to garner significant attention as it unfolds in the coming weeks.
