A member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has been apprehended on charges of raping and murdering the two-and-a-half-year-old daughter of his live-in partner in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, according to police reports.

The accused, identified as Periyanayagam, is 40 years old and was living with 24-year-old Princy, who is currently estranged from her husband Surya. The incident reportedly took place in the absence of the child’s mother, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The victim was the daughter of Princy, a resident of Anchetty village. Following marital discord, Princy had moved in with her mother while Surya, her estranged husband, continued to visit to see their daughter. On February 11, the child experienced a seizure and subsequently lost consciousness, prompting her mother to take her to a private hospital. Unfortunately, medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival.

Surya, suspecting foul play in his daughter’s death, filed a complaint with the local police, which led to an investigation. A post-mortem examination uncovered injuries to the child’s private parts, indicating possible sexual assault.
