Dhiraj Bommadevara Breaks Asian And National Records In Recurve Qualification At Asian Games

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian archer Dhiraj Bommadevara delivered an exceptional performance at the Asian Games 2026, setting both Asian and national records in the men’s recurve qualification. He achieved an outstanding score of 698, placing him at the top of the qualification round in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on September 26. This remarkable feat secured him the number one seeding in the individual competition and contributed significantly to India’s team score.

Dhiraj’s performance was pivotal, as it also positioned India in third place for the men’s team qualification. The combination of scores from his teammates, Neeraj Chauhan and Yashdeep Bhoge, who finished 20th and 25th respectively, resulted in a team total of 2039. While no medals are awarded based solely on qualification scores, the team will enter the knockout stages with considerable momentum as the third seeds.

As the qualification rounds determine the draws for knockout matches, Dhiraj’s high seed strengthens his position in the subsequent individual competition.

Strong Performance in Women’s Compound Qualification

In the women’s compound qualification event, Chikitha Taniparthi also excelled, recording a score of 705 out of a possible 720, which placed her first in the individual standings. Her impressive performance was complemented by Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who secured 13th place with a score of 699. Prithika Pradeep rounded out the team in 20th place with a score of 695.

India’s combined score of 2099 in the women’s compound team category earned them a second-place finish in qualification. The format for qualifications influences how teams are positioned in upcoming knockout events, with both individual and team competitions poised for further action.

The archery segment has generated heightened anticipation as the competition progresses, showcasing the talents and capabilities of Indian archers in the Asian Games.
