The Delhi Gol Market area will see traffic curbs for the next six months as the NDMC undertakes a restoration project. In view of the conservation and restoration of the Gol Market building as a museum, vehicle movement around the area will be controlled for the next six months starting July 25, according to an advisory released on Thursday by NDMC. The authorities have also warned that additional regulations and diversions may be imposed depending on ground conditions and the progress of the work.
This extensive project will be handled by the New Delhi Municipal Council and will include the restoration of the iconic Gol Market building into a museum, as well as the redevelopment of surrounding infrastructure, which includes the construction of a subway and service block.
In the detailed advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police said that movement between Gol Market and Bhai Veer Singh Marg roundabout will be restricted in both directions. However, access to Bhai Veer Singh Marg will remain available via Kali Bari Marg, GPO roundabout, and other adjoining lanes.
In addition to traffic curbs, a strict parking advisory will also be issued, and no vehicle will be allowed to park on the service lanes near Gol Market roundabout and Udyan Marg. Improperly parked vehicles will be towed and prosecuted as per the law, according to the advisory.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus route modifications will also be considered to ensure smooth public mobility during the construction period. The Traffic Police has urged commuters to use public transport to reduce congestion and to avoid the stretch until the construction is complete. Travellers heading toward critical transit points such as Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi Railway Station, and ISBT terminal are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays due to traffic congestion.
