Delhi Student Activists Detailed After Pro-Palestine Protests

Many student activists were detained by the Delhi Police on Tuesday afternoon after the march towards the Israeli embassy to protest the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the recent detention linked to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which is a pro-Palestine and humanitarian mission aimed at breaking the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza.

Among those detained were Jawaharlal Nehru University student Anas, President Nitish Kumar, and All India Student Association Secretary at Jamia Islamia, Saurabh. The student group was protesting against the ‘inhuman siege of Gaza’ and ‘the illegal arrest of activists on board the Freedom Flotilla’. In a statement released by AISA after the protest, the student body alleged that the police had violently detained students and activists from Delhi and termed this action as ‘brutal’.

AISA’s Statement

“AISA condemned the brutal detention of students and demands boycott and divestment from Israel and an end to the joint ventures, weapons deals, and business exchange,” the statement by the student group read.

According to a senior Delhi Police officer, around 30 individuals were detained from the protest site because they were expressing public dissent without any prior permission. “They were taken to Bawana Police Station and will be released after some time,” the senior police officer told national media.
