The Delhi Police have apprehended nine foreign nationals for allegedly overstaying their visas or lacking valid travel documents. This action is part of a broader operation aimed at combating illegal immigration and unauthorised residency in the national capital.

Following intelligence reports, the North District Police formed two specialised teams to locate individuals violating immigration laws and to assess the legal standing of those with ongoing criminal cases. The initiative reflects an increased focus on enforcement and immigration compliance.

The initial phase of the crackdown commenced on September 7, when law enforcement officials conducted extensive searches in Baba Colony, falling under the Burari police station’s jurisdiction. During this operation, police identified three Nigerian nationals—Victory Isimah, Godspower Ikechukwu, and Aliou Cisse—who were unable to provide valid documentation.

Subsequent Raids Yield Further Detentions

A follow-up operation took place in the early hours of September 16, involving a collaborative effort from various police units, including the Special Staff and the Anti-Narcotics Cell. This team executed raids across multiple locations in Chandan Vihar, Pragati Enclave, and Maurya Enclave in Burari.

During these raids, ten foreign nationals from countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Uganda, and Cameroon were detained for scrutiny of their travel papers. It was discovered that four of them—Ann Favourite Michael (Ghana), Elise Djonba (Ivory Coast), Ebuh Happiness (Nigeria), and Godstime Ikechukwu Chukwuma (Nigeria)—were found to be staying in India beyond the expiration of their visas.

Additionally, two Nigerian nationals, Costa Abraham and Raymond Maduka Eze, could not present any valid identification or visa documentation. After completing medical assessments and following all necessary protocols, these six individuals were presented to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and are set for deportation proceedings.

Legal Proceedings Affecting Some Individuals

Among the detained were three other foreigners—Ndagire Mizzy (Uganda), Emmanuel Owusu Nsiah (Ghana), and Sunday Chikezie (Nigeria)—who are currently embroiled in ongoing legal cases. Their respective matters are being heard in competent courts, including the Special Cell and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

Due to the legal status of these individuals, no immediate immigration action will be taken against them. Meanwhile, another individual, Samuel Enow Ebot Manyienow from Cameroon, was found to possess valid documentation and has been released.

The police reiterated that this initiative is part of an ongoing strategy focused on increased surveillance and intelligence-led policing. It aims at ensuring compliance with immigration regulations and preserving law and order throughout Delhi, further establishing the capital as a secure environment for all residents.
