Abhijeet Dipke Criticises Delhi Police Over Diljit Dosanjh Concert Denial

The CSR Journal Magazine

Abhijeet Dipke has publicly criticised the Delhi Police for refusing to grant permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s concert, which was scheduled to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 30. The founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) expressed his discontent through a post on X, questioning whether the authorities are “scared of concerts too?” This statement comes in the context of ongoing protests led by Dipke and other CJP members against the government.

Diljit Dosanjh had previously announced the India segment of his AURA tour, with Delhi set to be the inaugural city, followed by performances in Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Indore. However, on Thursday, the Delhi Police officially denied permission for the concert, citing concerns regarding security.

A letter sent to the ticketing platform BookMyShow from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the South District indicated that the request for the concert had been reviewed but ultimately rejected. The letter allegedly mentioned “specific threat-related inputs” and highlighted the police’s commitments to security and law and order during the festive season.

AAP Questions the Decision

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also responded to the Delhi Police’s decision, suggesting that it may be indicative of a bias against progressive voices from Punjab. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj took to X to question why the Central Government’s Delhi Police would deny permission for a concert featuring Diljit Dosanjh, who is widely popular among the youth in Punjab.

Bharadwaj’s remarks imply that the refusal to allow the concert could reflect a deeper issue regarding the treatment of artists from Punjab. He stated, “Is it a deep-rooted bias against progressive voices of Punjab? Indian youth loves @diljitdosanjh, and he is much loved in Punjab.” This comment underscores the political tensions surrounding the event.

As the situation unfolds, it remains uncertain whether the concert organisers will attempt to reschedule the event for a later date or initiate a refund process for those who purchased tickets. Pre-sales for the tour commenced on October 6, and several venues have reportedly sold out, indicating a strong demand for the performances.

Future Concerts Scheduled

Following the planned concert in Delhi, Diljit Dosanjh is scheduled to perform in Indore on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 21, Mumbai on November 27, Bengaluru on November 29, and Lucknow on December 5. Additionally, a concert in Chandigarh has been announced, although details regarding its date and other specifics have yet to be confirmed.

The cancellation of the Delhi concert has raised questions about the implications for the remaining dates of the tour. Fans and ticket holders are awaiting further announcements from the organisers regarding the next steps. The ongoing political discourse surrounding the event highlights the intersection of culture and governance in contemporary India.

As the situation develops, stakeholders, including fans, artists, and political entities, will be closely monitoring the responses from both the authorities and the concert organisers. The outcome may have lasting effects on the relationship between artists and the regulatory frameworks governing public events in India.
