The Delhi High Court has ordered the removal of social media links pertaining to the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy from platforms such as X and YouTube. This decision comes in light of a petition filed by actor Salman Khan against the production of the film. The court has expressed strong disapproval towards the film’s producer, Amit Jani, during the proceedings.

Producer’s Conduct Under Scrutiny

During the hearing, the court issued stern comments regarding Jani’s behaviour, indicating a growing concern about the conduct of the film’s production team. The judges remarked, “Your audacity seems to have increased because no order was passed the last time.” This statement underscores the court’s frustration regarding the perceived disregard for legal boundaries by those involved with the film.

The court further observed that Jani and his team appeared to operate as though they were “above the law,” expressing that such behaviour is “getting worse by the day.” The judges also highlighted the need to treat all citizens, regardless of their prominence, with respect and legal consideration.

In defence of Jani, his counsel stated that the material under discussion was merely a teaser and questioned its alleged violations of Salman Khan’s personality rights. He argued that there was no explicit mention of Khan’s name in the teaser, contending that it does not infringe upon any rights associated with public figures. The lawyer noted that the teaser lacked deepfake or AI-generated content, asserting that there is no legal protection over public events or appearances.

Salman Khan’s Legal Standpoint

Representing Salman Khan, his counsel presented arguments stating that Khan had been acquitted in three out of four blackbuck-related legal cases against him. Furthermore, the sentence for the remaining case has been temporarily stayed. The legal team labelled the film’s narrative as potentially detrimental, allegedly attempting to incite antagonism from an entire community towards the actor.

Notably, on July 1, the Delhi High Court had previously deferred Salman Khan’s plea against the film’s producers. During that session, the producers assured the court that there would be no immediate release or submission to the Central Board of Film Certification until further notice. This demonstrates the ongoing legal complexities surrounding the case, which remains under active consideration by the court.
