The Delhi government is set to initiate the issuance of a ‘Family Card’ for every household in the capital. This initiative aims to develop a comprehensive and verified database that encompasses all families residing in the city. Officials have indicated that the card will contain essential information about family members, including their eligibility for benefits under various government schemes, along with significant life events such as births and deaths.

According to officials, the establishment of this database is intended to facilitate better planning for future public welfare and healthcare projects. The move comes as part of an effort to ensure that the implementation of new schemes, such as the recently approved Delhi Lakshmi Yojna, can be effectively managed.

A senior official mentioned that this initiative mirrors efforts in neighbouring Haryana, which has already launched the ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’. This document serves as a family identification tool containing vital information about the family unit.

Details of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojna

The Delhi Lakshmi Yojna, approved by the government recently, aims to provide financial assistance to women. Under the scheme, eligible women aged between 21 and 60 years can receive monthly support of Rs 2,500, subject to specific conditions. Notably, women with more than three living children and those in households consuming more than 2,400 units of power annually are excluded from eligibility.

The Delhi government has allocated Rs 5,110 crore in the 2026-27 budget to support this scheme. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta explained that the limitations regarding the number of children were deliberately included to assist women in lower middle-class families, who may be pressured to have more children for the sake of having sons.

Under the guidelines approved by the cabinet, applicants must submit a self-declaration confirming their residency in Delhi for at least ten years and stating that they have no criminal background. Furthermore, women whose family income does not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh annually can apply for assistance.
