The recent suspension of over 20 BRS MLAs from the Telangana Assembly has drawn strong criticism from Congress MLA Vedma Bhojju, who argues that the incident reflects a “grand design” orchestrated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

Bhojju emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against the suspended legislators, stating they reportedly used vulgar language directed at the Assembly Speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, and members of his family. According to Bhojju, the action taken against BRS MLAs T. Madhu and Naveen Reddy was necessary due to their alleged inappropriate behaviour.

He called this incident a wake-up call for the citizens of Telangana, urging them to confront the BRS party over its conduct and the implications it has for the legislative process. In addition to the suspensions, Bhojju mentioned that legal cases are being pursued against other individuals involved. He expressed confidence that the ruling government would undertake any further actions required to address the situation adequately.

Allegations of a Conspiracy

Congress MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy added to the controversy by alleging that the leaders of the BRS entered the Assembly with a predefined “conspiracy” devised by KCR. He claimed that their behaviour was part of a broader strategy to disrupt legislative proceedings and divert public attention from the government’s failures.

Reddy accused KCR of inadequately fulfilling his duties as an opposition leader and alleged that the BRS’s actions helped obscure their inefficiencies. He specifically pointed to the rules governing demonstrations within the Assembly, indicating that while wearing T-shirts is allowable, the display of placards is not, which, in his view, demonstrates KCR’s control over Assembly proceedings.

He concluded by calling on the people of Telangana to scrutinise KCR’s actions more closely, underscoring what he believes to be an attempt to manipulate public perception.

Suspension Details and Related Events

The suspension order came amid significant unrest in the Assembly, where BRS members demanded an immediate discussion regarding an adjournment motion moved by KT Rama Rao, the party’s working president. This motion sought to address what was described as a deterioration in the law and order situation in the state.

These include alleged threats against the Leader of the Opposition, K Chandrashekar Rao. The suspension encompassed notable BRS figures, including KT Rama Rao and deputy leader T Harish Rao, along with various other MLAs now barred from participating in the Monsoon Session.

This group includes Anil Jadhav, G Jagdish Reddy, and several others, highlighting the breadth of the disciplinary measures taken. Later in the day, suspended leaders of the BRS, including KT Rama Rao, met with Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhawan. This meeting indicated that the political tension surrounding the Assembly issues is likely to escalate as discussions continue regarding the conduct of the BRS and the reactions from the government.
