2 College Lecturers Lure, Rape, and Blackmail Student in Bengaluru, Three Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a disturbing incident reported in Bengaluru, two lecturers from a private college in Dakshina Kannada and their friend have been arrested. The case against them was filed for repeatedly raping and blackmailing a college student. The victim, a student at the same institution, was allegedly manipulated into traveling to Bengaluru by one of her teachers. The teacher claimed he would help her with academic materials.

According to police sources, Narendra, a physics lecturer, first contacted the student under the pretense of sharing academic notes. Once in Bengaluru, she was taken to a private residence where Narendra allegedly raped her and threatened her to remain silent.

Blackmailed with Video Evidence, Further Assaulted

The situation escalated when Sandeep, a biology lecturer at the same college, used a video recording of the survivor with Narendra to blackmail her. He too allegedly raped her at the same residence. The third accused, Anup, a friend of the lecturers, reportedly used CCTV footage of the student entering his home as leverage to assault her.

The survivor endured weeks of psychological torture and repeated assaults before breaking her silence. She confided in her parents during their visit to Bengaluru, prompting swift action.

Formal Complaint Leads to Quick Arrests

Following the student’s disclosure, her family approached the Karnataka State Women’s Commission. On their recommendation, a formal police complaint was lodged at the Marathahalli Police Station on July 5. Acting promptly, the police arrested all three accused the very next day.

“The case was registered on July 5. Based on the victim’s detailed statement, we arrested three individuals. A thorough investigation is ongoing,” said Ramesh Banoth, Joint Commissioner of Police, East Division.

College, Community Reeling from Abuse of Authority

The arrests have sent shockwaves through the academic community. All three accused, Narendra, Sandeep, and Anupare linked to the same private college where the survivor is enrolled. Authorities have not confirmed whether the institution has taken any disciplinary action against the lecturers.

The case highlights yet again how those in positions of trust and authority can become perpetrators of severe abuse. The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has assured full support to the survivor.
