Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the online registration portal for the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’ on August 1, 2026. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to eligible women aged between 21 and 60 years. Each recipient will receive a monthly payment of Rs 2,500, which is intended to support women’s economic independence and enhance their self-respect.

The rebranding of the previous Mahila Samriddhi Yojana into the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana reflects the Delhi Government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. CM Gupta stated that the initiative marks a pivotal moment for the dignity and confidence of countless women across the city.

During the launch, Gupta expressed her enthusiasm on social media, describing the occasion as a celebration of honour and self-worth for women in Delhi. She reiterated the government’s promise to improve the lives of women in the capital, stating that this launch was the fulfilment of a commitment made to them.

Bicycle Distribution Under Vidya Vahini Yojana

The Chief Minister also announced the distribution of over 3,000 bicycles to Class 9 girl students as part of the ‘Vidya Vahini Yojana’. This initiative took place at the East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex and is aimed at improving accessibility to education. Gupta mentioned that this is the first phase of a broader plan designed to boost attendance and empower girls in their educational pursuits.

As part of this initiative, a total of 1.40 lakh girls studying in government schools are expected to receive bicycles within the next month. The initiative is seen as a significant step towards eliminating obstacles to education for young women in Delhi.

Gupta emphasised the importance of this school support programme, asserting that it would facilitate safe and reliable transport for girls travelling to school. The CM described the initiative as a cornerstone for bridging gaps in education, while also encouraging participation in sports and academic activities.

Government’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

In her remarks, CM Rekha Gupta reinforced the government’s dedication to empowering female students. She highlighted that by providing a bicycle, the government aims to contribute positively to the educational journey of young girls. The initiative is anticipated to reduce family expenses associated with commuting, thus fostering an environment conducive to education.
