Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the ‘Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra’ scheme in Lucknow on Wednesday. The initiative will provide free bus travel to women aged 60 years and above across the state.

The scheme aims to improve women’s mobility while promoting convenience, dignity, and self-reliance.

Free Travel Provision on Raksha Bandhan

The initiative also includes special provisions for mothers, sisters, and daughters to travel free of cost on Raksha Bandhan. One accompanying person will also be allowed to travel with each eligible woman under the special arrangement.

Scheme Named After Ahilyabai Holkar

The scheme has been named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, whom Yogi described as an example of women’s self-reliance and effective governance.

The Chief Minister highlighted Holkar’s contributions during a challenging period in Indian history, including her efforts to restore temples and promote good governance.

Yogi Highlights Women’s Safety

During the launch, Yogi Adityanath said his government was focused on ensuring women’s safety and dignity. He criticized previous state administrations, alleging that women faced insecurity and a lack of adequate support before 2017.

He also claimed that earlier governments lacked mechanisms such as integrated helplines and dedicated women’s help desks.

Criticism of Previous Governments

Yogi alleged that middlemen influenced the distribution of pensions and scholarships under previous administrations. He also accused earlier governments of allowing various mafia networks to exert influence in sectors including forests, sand, cattle, and examinations.

Government’s Women-Centric Action Plan

The Chief Minister said his government has adopted a comprehensive approach to women’s welfare, covering various stages of life from birth and education to employment and entrepreneurship.

He emphasized that the plan also focuses on ensuring women’s safety, dignity, and economic independence.

Focus on Mobility and Self-Reliance

The launch of the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader efforts to support women’s welfare and mobility. By providing free public transport to senior women, the government aims to make travel more accessible while strengthening their independence.
