A third-year male student of Chhattisgarh’s International Institute of Information Technology, located in Naya Raipur, created obscene morphed pictures and videos of at least 30 women students with the assistance of artificial intelligence. Over 1,000 pictures and videos have been recovered by a three-member staff committee of the college.
Women Students Lodge Complaints
The accused student is a resident of Bilaspur and was studying Electronics and Communication Engineering. This case came to light when a female student filed a complaint in the office of the Registrar of the institute on October 6, confirmed by the institute’s Registrar, Professor Srinivas. He also shared that following the complaint, a probe committee was formed and the room of the accused student was searched. “A three-member staff committee, composed of women, has been formed to investigate,” Srinivas noted.
What Gadgets Have Been Confiscated?
The phone, laptop, and pen drive of the accused have been confiscated. Parents of the victim women students have been interviewed. Srinivas shared, “Further action is being taken to ensure that no personal information is leaked.” College authorities have confirmed that a cyber expert has been involved in the matter to verify whether the pictures and videos have been shared outside the college campus.
Police Yet to Receive Written Complaint; Investigation on Hold
Police have confirmed that they are still waiting for a written complaint to lodge an FIR and begin the investigation. Ashish Rajput, in charge of the Rakhi Police Station, said the case has come to their knowledge and they are checking the facts, but unless a written complaint is filed, it will be difficult for them to start the investigation.
Meanwhile, the women victims have requested the college authorities to take strict action against the accused.
