Censor Cuts 35 Seconds of Intimate Scenes, Mutes Cuss Words in Mirzapur The Movie

The CSR Journal Magazine

Farhan Akhtar’s much-anticipated “Mirzapur The Movie” has officially received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), just days before its theatrical debut on September 4, 2026. The film has been authorised for a total runtime of 197.19 minutes, equating to 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 19 seconds.

The certification process required several modifications pertaining to language and explicit content. This included alterations to coarse language, as the board aimed to ensure that the film adhered to its guidelines. Reports indicate that four instances of cursing were muted, while six abusive words were replaced with milder alternatives.

Specific dialogue changes include the phrase “Galey se lag gar,” which saw one term substituted with “kamar” in the first half, and “lanth,” which means idiot, altered in the latter portion. Additionally, a reference to caste was transformed in accordance with CBFC’s directives.

Modifications to Intimate Content

As part of the certification, the CBFC mandated a significant reduction in the impact of intimate scenes, requiring modifications that reportedly resulted in the removal of around 35 seconds of footage. Changes were applied to two sequences, one occurring before the film’s interval and another after it.

Despite these adjustments, the board opted not to request cuts pertaining to the film’s violent or graphic scenes. This decision has drawn attention, especially given the film’s reputation for a gritty narrative that resonates with viewers of the original series.

The film was ultimately cleared by the CBFC’s Revising Committee, which is typical when filmmakers contest modifications suggested by the initial Examining Committee. While a source close to the project maintained that the theatrical release underwent minimal alterations, they also stated that the essence of the film remained intact.

Production and Cast Details

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, “Mirzapur The Movie” features a script by Puneet Krishna and is produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment, founded by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani are co-producers for this venture.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including well-known actors such as Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, and Jitendra Kumar. Additional cast members encompass Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, and Shriya Pilgaonkar, among others.

The film’s storyline and character arcs carry forward the popular narrative established in the original streaming series, set against a backdrop of power struggles and drama in the fictional town of Mirzapur. As the cinematic version approaches its release date, excitement levels among fans are reportedly high.
