Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ Receives Govt Clearance for November Release

The CSR Journal Magazine

Salman Khan’s film, ‘Maatrubhumi’, is reportedly edging closer to its release in theatres following the receipt of a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The war drama, which has faced several obstacles in its journey to the big screen, is now on track for a potential release in November if it secures the necessary approvals in the upcoming stages.

According to information from Bollywood Hungama, the revised version of ‘Maatrubhumi’ received clearance last week. The film’s producers are expected to present it to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) soon. If the certification process is completed promptly, a release date of November 13 has been suggested as a possibility.

With government clearance achieved, the CBFC certification remains the next significant step for the film’s progression towards release. A source indicated that Khan believes the period following Diwali would be particularly favourable for the film, as audiences may still be in a celebratory mood. The coming ten days are anticipated to provide more clarity about the final release date.

Delays and Changes to the Film

Initially branded as ‘Battle of Galwan’, ‘Maatrubhumi’ draws inspiration from the border conflict that occurred between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh in 2020. The film experienced delays in its production timeline primarily due to awaiting government clearance. Reports suggest that the Ministry of Defence had expressed concerns over specific portrayals in the film, especially those relating to China.

The project reportedly stagnated as the makers revised the content in accordance with the concerns raised. Ultimately, the alterations satisfied the requirements of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, leading to the NOC’s issuance last week. A source conveyed that officials from the Ministry are now content with how the film has been adjusted to better reflect the current geopolitical rapport between India and China.

As part of its efforts to facilitate a smoother approval process, the revised version is said to depict the relationship between the two nations in a more positive light. This indicates a significant strategic shift in the film’s narrative, potentially easing tensions relating to its content.

About ‘Maatrubhumi’ and Future Projects

‘Maatrubhumi’ is helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia and features performances by Salman Khan and Chitrangada Singh. Originally conceived as ‘Battle of Galwan’, the film underwent a title change earlier this year amidst ongoing revisions to its script and themes. The film seeks to encapsulate the complexities of the India-China conflict while navigating the cultural sensitivities involved.

In addition to ‘Maatrubhumi’, Salman Khan is preparing for another major film project titled ‘SVC63’, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, which will also include actress Nayanthara. This indicates Khan’s ongoing presence in the film industry and his commitment to diverse storytelling, even as he progresses with ‘Maatrubhumi’.

As the film inches closer to its potential release, stakeholders remain optimistic about its reception, especially given the adjustments made in response to earlier criticisms. The strategic timing of its debut after Diwali might play a pivotal role in its performance at the box office, attracting audiences who are still in a festive spirit.
