CBI Accuses Mother-in-Law of Twisha Sharma’s Character Malignment

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Madhya Pradesh High Court of the necessity for custodial interrogation of former judge Giribala Singh in connection with the Twisha Sharma death case. The agency alleged that Singh made significant efforts to tarnish the character of the late actor-model, who was 33 years old at the time of her death. The CBI’s appeal against Singh’s anticipatory bail included serious accusations of dowry harassment, forced abortion, and attempts to manipulate evidence.

In its submission to the court, the CBI highlighted that injuries had been found on Sharma’s body, yet her in-laws did not provide an explanation for these marks. The agency referred to a medical report which suggested that the injuries could not have been inflicted during the removal of the body, raising further questions about the circumstances of her demise.

Allegations of Dowry and Evidence Tampering

The CBI also revealed that recovered WhatsApp conversations indicated doubts cast upon Twisha Sharma’s character by Singh and her husband, Samarth Singh, following the discovery of her pregnancy. The agency claims that this suspicion led to an enforced abortion, allegedly based on accusations that the child was not Samarth’s. Testimonies gathered during the investigation also indicated that demands for dowry were made multiple times, with claims that the dowry provided at the time of marriage did not meet the family’s expectations.

During a recent court session, the CBI accused Giribala Singh of leaking a portion of a video recording online to sway public opinion about the case. They argued that her custodial interrogation is essential to further clarify these allegations and advance the investigation.

Later in the proceedings, the Madhya Pradesh High Court annulled the anticipatory bail that had been granted to Singh. In a detailed 17-page ruling, vacation judge Devnarayan Mishra set aside the earlier decision made by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge in Bhopal, which had allowed Singh’s anticipatory bail connected to violations of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Custody of Samarth Singh Secured

On the same day, a Bhopal court ordered that Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, be remanded to CBI custody. This action is part of the ongoing investigation into Sharma’s death, with Singh being taken to Giribala Singh’s residence in Katara Hills as investigators continue their inquiries.

The CBI resumed its investigation into the case following Sharma’s death, which allegedly occurred on May 12 when she was discovered hanging in her marital home in Bhopal. The agency has since re-registered the first information report (FIR) previously filed by the Madhya Pradesh Police, naming both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as defendants.

In light of the High Court’s decision regarding anticipatory bail, senior advocate Anurag Shrivastava, representing Twisha Sharma’s family, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, indicating that it brings a measure of justice in this troubling case. He further urged Giribala Singh, given her extensive career in the judiciary spanning 36 years, to voluntarily surrender to the CBI and assist with the ongoing investigation.
