Indian-Origin Store Owner Fatally Shot During Tennessee Robbery

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent fatal shooting of a 62-year-old Indian-origin store owner has left the local community in shock. Suresh Patel was killed during an armed robbery at his establishment, Ridgecrest Cellars Wine and Spirits, located in Jackson, Tennessee. The tragic event reportedly occurred on Thursday night around 9 pm, with authorities confirming that Patel’s 19-year-old daughter was present at the store at the time of the incident.

According to the Jackson Police Department, the motive behind the robbery is still under investigation. Reports indicate that Suresh Patel had only assumed ownership of the store on the Monday preceding the shooting, making the incident particularly distressing for the family.

Witnesses described a masked individual entering the shop, brandishing a firearm, and demanding money from employees. After obtaining the cash, the suspect opened fire, resulting in Patel sustaining fatal injuries. Law enforcement confirmed that he died at the scene.

Details of the Suspect and Ongoing Investigation

The suspect, who was captured on the store’s CCTV, is described as a Black male dressed in a grey hoodie, jeans, and black work-style boots. His face was obscured by a paintball-style mask. Following the robbery, the assailant reportedly fled the scene in a white sedan. Police have emphasised that he should be regarded as armed and dangerous.

In the aftermath of this crime, law enforcement has initiated a manhunt for the suspect and is urging the public to provide any information that may aid in the investigation. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to reach out to the Jackson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

Particular concerns have been raised regarding the safety of convenience store owners, particularly those of Gujarati descent, in the United States. The incident involving Suresh Patel follows a series of violent robberies that have targeted this community.

Recent Trends in Violent Robberies

This incident is not isolated, as the Indian-origin community has witnessed a troubling trend of violence during store robberies. In May 2025, 30-year-old Paresh “Prince” Patel was tragically shot during a robbery at a gas station in Tennessee. Just two months ago, another Gujarati woman, Meghna Patel, was killed inside her store in Norfolk, Virginia.

The pattern continued in September 2025 when Kiran Patel, originally from Charotar, was fatally shot in a parking lot after confronting an armed robber who had attempted to rob her store. Such events have raised alarms about the safety of small business operators in similar environments.

Local community leaders and law enforcement agencies are calling for enhanced safety measures to protect business owners and their families. The repeated incidents of violence have sparked discussions about the need for better security protocols within small retail establishments.
