CAG Report Highlights Financial Mismanagement of Andhra Pradesh Coalition Government: Jagan Mohan Reddy

The CSR Journal Magazine

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the president of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, claimed that a recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India supports allegations of financial indiscipline by the state’s ruling coalition.

At a press briefing, Reddy stated that the coalition government has borrowed approximately Rs 3.2 lakh crore over the past two years, a figure that starkly contrasts with the Rs 3.31 lakh crore borrowed during his own five-year tenure. He expressed concerns regarding the lack of transparency in the use of these funds, questioning where the money had gone amid growing fiscal challenges.

Concerns Over Revenue Decline and Public Services

Reddy pointed out that the coalition’s borrowing has directly led to a decline in state revenues, which he attributed to possible corruption and mismanagement. He stated that the unfulfilled promises made under the so-called ‘Super Six’ initiatives worsen the situation, calling attention to the increasing fiscal deficit. “There is no clarity on how these significant borrowings have been utilized,” he emphasized. The former Chief Minister accused the coalition of corruption in various sectors, including sand, land, and liquor dealings. He criticized the government for failing to provide satisfactory answers during the recent 16-day Assembly session regarding key public issues.

Assembly Session Criticism and Unanswered Questions

The YSRCP leader expressed disappointment at the Assembly session, suggesting that it was utilized for political posturing rather than addressing pressing public inquiries. He commented that the session involved spreading misinformation and unfounded allegations against opposition parties, while his party’s legitimate questions concerning public interest remained unresponded. Citing specific issues such as the financial misconduct, Reddy’s concerns were reflected in the party’s official press release, which highlighted how the session was devoted to mutual commendations among coalition partners and directed attacks against the YSRCP.

Accusations Against Chandrababu Naidu

Reddy’s statements included pointed criticisms of Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), regarding his management of temple-related issues and welfare schemes. He accused Naidu of negligence that resulted in dangerous situations, such as a stampede at Tirupati, and alleged that the TDP government failed to respond to inquiries concerning adulteration in ghee and other essential supplies. In his remarks, Reddy maintained that the price hike of ghee from Rs 351 to Rs 761 per kilogram could be indicative of attempts to benefit select individuals connected to Naidu.

Women’s Safety and Social Issues Under Scrutiny

The YSRCP leader also addressed women’s safety, dismissing Naidu’s claims made during an International Women’s Day meeting as insincere. He cited instances of violence against women involving TDP-Jana Sena MLAs and referenced a lack of accountability for officials involved in such incidents. Reddy asserted that, during his administration, tangible steps were taken toward women’s empowerment, including reservations and support for small businesses. He lamented the current government’s failure to uphold welfare programs like the minimum support price and crop insurance for farmers.
