Through their operations, startup collects about 20 tonnes of secondary waste from 100 farmers and five factory units each month. In making tree-free paper by upcycling the waste, they also save about 30 tonnes of wood per month and a minimum of 55,000 litres of water a day.

UN forum calls for greater investments in statistics to ensure no one, nowhere is left behind post COVID-19

Increasing investments in official statistics as well as empowering users will be a crucial factor to support post-pandemic socio-economic recovery in the Asia-Pacific region, underscored delegates at the close of a United Nations meeting today.
The Asia-Pacific Statistics Week, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), brought together more than 1000 participants representing governments, national statistics offices, central banks, academia and international organisations. 85 papers from 18 countries and eight international organizations were discussed at the four-day virtual forum.
“Official statistics provide governments, businesses and civil society with the indispensable information they need to make good decisions. And they give people and their representatives the tools to have informed debates, to make choices and to hold decision-makers to account. The Asia-Pacific Statistics Week is a wonderful example of the reach of official statistics in Asia and the Pacific,” shared President of the International Association for Official Statistics John Pullinger.
The forum focused on progress made towards the Asia-Pacific Collective Vision and Framework for Action for advancing official statistics for the 2030 Agenda under five action areas. It discussed empowering national statistical systems to meet urgent and evolving statistical needs by strengthening statistical skills, modernizing statistical business processes, legal and institutional structures, and engaging users.
While the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has placed greater demand for a wider scope of statistics, many countries in the region continue to struggle with getting the basics such as population and economic statistics right. Participants highlighted the increasing need for regional substantive support in this area, and for more data integration to support analysis of sustainable development issues. They also underscored the importance of engaging users to make national statistical systems more responsive and able to develop strategies for better-informed policy decisions.

CSR News: Coca-Cola and Care India provide immediate food security to 1.5 lakh people

With a focus towards supporting relief operations during the COVID-19 pandemic and making a difference, Coca-Cola has partnered with CARE India to provide immediate food security and other essentials to underprivileged and vulnerable groups.
As a part of the CSR initiative, Coca-Cola and CARE India will provide dry-ration kits with meticulously curated food items to meet specific nutritional needs of various marginalized groups such as migrant workers, daily wage earners and people living with HIV/AIDS across various parts of the country.
The three-month-long programme aims to benefit over 1.5 lakh people starting from the month of June. This CSR initiative is a part of Coca-Cola’s commitment of INR 100 crores towards various COVID-19 relief programmes meant to benefit and positively impact over 10 lakh lives across the country.
The programme will be rolled out across Delhi & NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and West Bengal to distribute dry ration amongst people with meagre resources and affected by food crises. The ration kits include many essentials including wheat flour, rice, pulse, cooking oil, spices, sugar, salt, soy chunks, poha, peanuts, protein powder, milk powder and soap bars.
Due consideration has been given to meet the nutritional requirements of women and girls, and especially vulnerable groups such as people living with HIV/AIDS to help them deal better with these challenging times. Coca- Cola and CARE India acknowledge that people in distress also need to be treated respectfully and are committed to following safe and respectful distribution practices.

Visionary e-learning CSR programmes of Endress+Hauser and Nayara Energy

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) recognised the scope of e-learning long before coronavirus compelled urban schools to take heed of it. Here’s how the visionary e-learning CSR programmes of two companies—Nayara Energy and Endress+Hauser—have transformed education for thousands of students.

What are e-learning CSR programmes about?

Gramshiksha (CSR of Nayara Energy)

Nayara Energy owns and operates India’s second-largest single-site refinery. Its education CSR project Gramshiksha aims to ensure inclusive, equitable quality education as well as promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Most of the children are first-generation learners, and there is a pronounced gender gap with increasing dropout rates for girls. Around 48% of the adolescents drop out and do not study beyond the 8th grade. The CSR project endeavours to improve the quality of primary education through enrolment drives like Shala Praveshotsav, remedial teaching, attendance monitoring, ICT education, and building capacity of teachers and school officials. After the establishment of 16 National Institute Open Schooling (NIOS) centres, providing scholarships (with 75 students given scholarships so far) and promoting ICT education, the project works towards improving access to quality secondary education. It aims to reach out and engage with the community through Gramshiksha centres, awareness campaigns and adult literacy classes to ensure equitable access to functional literacy.
Gramshiksha adopts a multi-pronged approach to improve the level and overall quality of education of the students, teachers as well as community members. Over 1,800 students and 100 teachers have been engaged in programmes for primary education, with all the 18 schools having provisions of computer labs and smart classrooms as part of e-learning CSR programmes.

Free web-based training (CSR of Endress+Hauser)

Endress+Hauser is a Swiss-based globally operating process and laboratory instrumentation and automation supplier. The company has been running e-learning CSR programmes since 2012. It aims to provide free web-based training to engineering students to familiarise them with the latest technologies and principles used for measuring physical parameters such as level flow pressure temperature, water quality analytics etc., for enhanced understanding and implementation of technical training. General classes include classroom teaching of technologies, but there is an imbalance observed in the application of such programmes.
The programme is based on a self-learning process, where various web-based training modules on different technologies, principles, and their applications in major industries such as chemical, life science, food and beverages, oil and gas, power, mining etc., are made available to the students. Students can self-learn through the programme according to their convenience and sit for an online test after completing the module. After completing all the modules, the students receive a certificate from Endress+Hauser. This training method helps them to enhance their knowledge about the latest technology, and use it in future.
The programme has helped students understand how new developments can be practically implemented. The students are also provided with the opportunity to visit the factory to witness manufacturing processes and get to know the application of various technologies. The certifications have helped more than 1,200 engineering students from various institutes in Aurangabad avail a larger pool of job opportunities.

Tata Motors provides holistic support to frontline hero truckers and fleet operators

Tata Motors has been comprehensively supporting the transport ecosystem to ensure all necessary supplies remain uninterrupted and seamless, nationwide. Closely working with frontline her truckers, small transporters, mid-size transport operators and fleet owners amidst the unprecedented times, Tata Motors identified the existing and emerging pain points in every link of the transport value chain and partnered it to address them in the most effective and efficient manner.

Partnering truck drivers and transporters

– For frontline hero truckers transporting goods across the country, supplies of food, masks and sanitisers have been arranged at numerous ‘Saarthi Aaram Kendras’, across the entire Tata Motors operations network, and many other Indian Oil facilities located on the busiest national and state highways across the country. Several thousand truck drivers benefitted from the facilities and services offered.
– During the lockdown, a dedicated, 24×7 helpline 1800 209 7979 was set-up for truck drivers and transporters across the country. To speedily address the requests received, 900 emergency response teams were created and meticulously located in key transport hubs and corridors. These teams were manned by 4,000 trained and experienced technicians selected from Tata Motors extensive network of 1400 workshops nationwide and supported by 21 well-stocked warehouses with spare parts quickly accessible for fast turnaround of vehicles. Over 10,000 requests received for vehicle-related assistance were promptly addressed to keep the wheels of supplies running.
– To provide requisite repairs and servicing support, workshops were made operational at the earliest possible with a new set of standard operating procedure (SOPs). These defined minimal interactions, maintaining prudent social distance, vehicle contact and sanitisation etc. while engaging with customers.
– Warranties of commercial vehicles expiring during the period of national lockdown have been extended. Similarly, timelines of Tata Suraksha annual maintenance contracts have also been extended for the benefit of customers
Speaking about the initiatives undertaken, R. Partnering supplier, dealers and fleet owners

With the entire logistics sector hit hard due to a significant reduction in overall economic activity, Tata Motors Finance (TMF), a subsidiary of the Tata Motors Group engaged with 3,000 of its customers, across segments and vehicle applications, to understand the key issues being faced by them and accordingly extend assistance. Getting stranded vehicles operational, low fleet utilisation and challenge of operational viability due to minimal cash flow, emerged as the major areas of concern.

Extending moratorium on loans

Understanding their difficult situation and cognizant that these were exacerbated by the unprecedented disruption caused by COVID-19, TMF extended the RBI moratorium on payment of EMIs to all its retail and corporate customers who opted for it. While it was amongst the first financiers to do so, additionally TMF has also developed and is offering a rich portfolio of customised options for its customers to avail basis their need and ability. These include:
– Opex Funding to maintain liquidity in the value chain by taking care of fixed expenses for 3-4 months and service claims financing for dealers and suppliers.
– Restructuring of loans of retail fleet customers for benefit from flexible EMIs by reducing current EMIs to a level in line with their current income levels and with provisions to step up EMIs once business normalises over next 6-9 months. This is for customers who come within the definition of MSMEs and are eligible under the prevalent scheme of RBI.
– Working capital solutions for large fleet operators meet their obligations for the next few months. Funding is made available against the collateral of their free vehicles or any other tangible collateral already available with TMF.
– Bill Discounting Solutions for fleet operators to take care of increase in payment cycle from an average of 45 days Pre-COVID days to an anticipated level of 90 days going forward.
– Developing Credit solutions that will be of immense benefit to retail fleet operators by providing much needed plying time liquidity and credit support. Customers can buy fuel, recharge their fastags, pay for scheduled expenses like vehicle service, insurance, permit-road tax etc.
– New vehicle loans with low EMI levels for first 12 months. Also, bundled working capital loans with new vehicle loans with requisite collateral. Customers can navigate easily through the initial few months taken for the operations of a new vehicle to stabilize.

CSR News: Axis Bank commits Rs. 1 crore to West Bengal govt. for Cyclone Amphan relief

In an effort to support and provide financial aid to the West Bengal State Government, Axis Bank, India’s third-largest private-sector bank, announced its commitment of Rs 1 crore towards relief and restoration efforts in the areas affected by Cyclone Amphan.
To provide comfort and ease to the customers, the Bank has waived off charges for saving accounts, current accounts and prepaid card customers towards online IMPS and ATM financial and non-financial transactions till 30th June, 2020.

भारत-चीन झड़प में 20 जवान शहीद, देश नहीं भूलेगा शहादत

कन्नौज हो या कानपुर, दिल्ली हो या मुंबई, हर जगह चीनी चालबाजी के खिलाफ समूचे देश में गुस्सा है, चीनी उत्पादों को जलाया जा रहा है, चीनी झंडों को आग के हवाले कर चीन के कायराना हरकतों का विरोध किया जा रहा है, भारतीयों में गुस्सा है, उबाल है। एक बार फिर से चाइना ने ऐसी हरकत की है जिसका बदला भारत जल्द लेगा। 1962 के युद्ध के समय चीन ने जिस तरह धोखा दिया था, वैसी ही दगाबाजी उसने 58 साल बाद फिर कर डाली। पूर्वी लद्दाख में गलवान घाटी में सोमवार दोपहर बाद बातचीत करने गए भारतीय सैन्य दल पर चीनी सैनिकों ने अचानक हमला कर दिया। भारतीय सैनिकों ने भी मुंह तोड़ जवाब दिया। कई घंटे चली खूनी झड़प में कर्नल सहित 20 भारतीय शहीद हो गये जबकि चीन के करीब चार दर्जन सैनिक हताहत हो गये।भारतीय सेना ने इस बात की पुष्टि की कि गत रात्रि हुई बिना गोलीबारी वाली इस हिंसक झड़प में 20 भारतीय जवान शहीद हुए हैं। दूसरी ओर चीन के कम से कम 43 सैनिक हताहत हुए हैं।

भारत चीन सेना के झड़प में एक भी गोली नहीं चली, लाठी-डंडों, पत्थर से हमला

भारत और चीन दोनों ही देशों की ओर से कोई गोलीबारी नहीं हुई। दोनों पक्षों में सेनाओं के पीछे हटने पर बनी सहमति के बावजूद पीछे जाने के बजाय चीनी सैनिकों ने भारतीय सैनिकों पर पत्थरबाजी की और लोहे की कीलें लगीं लाठियों से भारत की सेना पर हमला किया। हाल फिलहाल में LAC पर इस तरह से दोनों देशों के जवानों के बीच झड़प की ख़बरें जरूर आयी थी लेकिन हिंसक झड़प में 20 जवानों के शहीद होने की खबर सालों बाद आयी है। बहरहाल चीन की इस करतूत पर अब भारत कड़ा रुख अख्तियार कर रहा है।

भारत चीन सेना झड़प – प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने तीन घंटे की बैठक, शाह भी मौजूद रहे

लद्दाख प्रकरण को लेकर नई दिल्ली में दिनभर उच्च स्तरीय बैठकें हुईं। पहले रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ बिपिन रावत और तीनों सेना अध्यक्षों के साथ बैठक की। इसके बाद रक्षा मंत्री ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को हालात से अवगत कराया। कल देर शाम करीब 8 बजे से रात 11 बजे तक प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के साथ बैठक करने गृहमंत्री अमित शाह पहुंचे। इस बीच भारतीय सेना ने फिर दोहराया है कि किसी भी कीमत पर भारतीय क्षेत्र की रक्षा की जाएगी और किसी को भी कब्जा नहीं करने दिया जाएगा। रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने तीनों सेना प्रमुखों और विदेश मंत्री डॉ. एस जयशंकर और चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ जनरल बिपिन रावत के साथ बैठक की।

चीन की इस हरकत पर पीएम मोदी की नज़र, 19 जून को बुलाई सर्वदलीय बैठक

इस बीच भारत-चीन सीमा क्षेत्र में मौजूदा हालात पर चर्चा के लिए PM नरेंद्र मोदी ने 19 जून को शाम 5 बजे सर्वदलीय बैठक बुलाई हैं। इस बैठक में अलग-अलग पार्टियों के अध्यक्ष शामिल होंगे। इस बैठक में भारत-चीन के बीच सीमा विवाद पर चर्चा की जाएगी। इसके अलावा विभिन्न राजनीतिक दलों के अध्यक्ष इस वर्चुअल बैठक में हिस्सा लेंगे। बता दे कि इसकी जानकारी प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय की ओर से ट्वीट कर दी गई हैं।

राजनाथ सिंह बोले- सैनिकों की क्षति परेशान करने वाली

चीन के खिलाफ बड़ा आर्थिक एक्शन ले सकती है मोदी सरकार

बुधवार को भारत और चीन के सैनिकों के बीच हुई हिंसक झड़प के बाद लद्दाख सीमा पर तनाव और ज्यादा बढ़ गया है। इस बीच खबर है कि भारत चीन के खिलाफ सख्त आर्थिक फैसले ले सकता है। कहा जा रहा है कि भारत उन चीनी प्रोजेक्ट को रद्द कर सकता है, जिनमें चीनी कंपनियों ने करार हासिल किया हुआ है। इनमें से एक मेरठ रैपिड रेल प्रोजेक्ट भी है। इस प्रोजेक्ट की बिड भी चीनी कंपनियों ने हासिल की है। कहा जा रहा है कि भारत सरकार ने चीन के साथ सीमा पर तनाव के बाद चीनी कंपनियों को दी गई प्रोजेक्ट की समीक्षा भी शुरू कर दी है।
इसमें दिल्ली-मेरठ आरआरटीएस परियोजना भी शामिल है। भारत सरकार चीन की बिड को रद्द करने के लिए सभी कानूनी पहलुओं को देख रही है। कहा जा रहा है कि इस बिड को सरकार द्वारा रद्द किया जा सकता है। दिल्ली-मेरठ RRTS प्रोजेक्ट के तहत दिल्ली-मेरठ के बीच सेमी हाई स्पीड रेल कॉरिडोर बनना है। इसमें दिल्ली गाजियाबाद होते हुए मेरठ से जुड़ेगी। इस परियोजना से खासकर उत्तराखंड और उत्तर प्रदेश जाने वालों को बहुत फायदा मिलेगा। यह कुल 82.15 किलोमीटर लंबा होगा। जिसमें 68.03 किलोमीटर हिस्सा एलिवेटेड होगा और 14.12 किलोमीटर अंडरग्राउंड होगा।

Tech Mahindra Signs UN Global Compact Initiative Statement on Climate Action

Tech Mahindra has joined 155 global companies in calling for policies that will build resilience against future shocks by supporting efforts to hold global temperature rise to within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with reaching net-zero emissions well before 2050.
The statement comes as governments around the world are preparing trillions of dollars’ worth of stimulus packages to help economies recover from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, and as they prepare to submit enhanced national climate plans under the Paris Agreement.
Tech Mahindra Ltd. has signed a joint declaration with UN Global Compact, urging governments to align their COVID-19 recovery efforts with the latest climate science.
