Bengaluru Man Stages Own Kidnapping to Demand Rs 90 Lakh from Father

The CSR Journal Magazine

On October 1, it was reported that a 40-year-old man, identified as Manish, had allegedly orchestrated his own kidnapping with the assistance of two associates. According to police officials, the plot involved demanding a ransom of Rs 90 lakh from Manish’s father to resolve an existing debt.

Manish was traced to a residence in a village near Belur in the Hassan district of Karnataka through technical surveillance by the police. The investigation commenced after his father filed a formal complaint at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police Station.

Circumstances Leading to the Incident

On the evening of September 29, Manish left his home in Bengaluru, informing his parents that he was travelling to Gadag for financial dealings. He stated he would take the 11:40 pm train and assured them of a call the following morning.

Concerns arose when the family did not receive any communication. On the morning of September 30, they received a WhatsApp call from Manish’s phone around 8:30 am. The caller purportedly claimed that Manish had been kidnapped, threatening that he would only be released upon payment of Rs 90 lakh in ransom, according to a senior police officer.

This alarming situation prompted his father to seek police assistance, leading to the initiation of a criminal case.

Investigation and Discovery

During the police investigation, authorities managed to trace Manish’s mobile phone, which yielded information on another number believed to belong to the alleged kidnappers. Through technical surveillance, law enforcement was able to identify the location where Manish was staying, ultimately leading to his discovery in a village near Belur.

Upon questioning, it was revealed that the kidnapping was not genuine but instead part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Manish along with his two friends. Further inquiries indicated that prior financial losses in another business venture prompted Manish to devise this plan as a means to alleviate his monetary troubles.

As a result of the investigation, two friends involved in the conspiracy were apprehended by the police. The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities continue to probe into all aspects of the case.
