The CSR Journal Magazine

Mumbai, India: In a deeply moving and heartwarming event at Crossword Bookstore, Kemps Corner, 17-year-old Aman Deepak Patel, who has been bravely battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since the age of 14, launched his debut book, A Man’s Story in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Foundation India. For Aman, this moment was not just about publishing a book, but about realizing a cherished dream: to be an author, to share his truth, and to inspire others facing life-altering challenges.

Aman, currently in Grade 12 and pursuing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at The Cathedral and John Connon School, was diagnosed during the COVID-19 pandemic time of immense uncertainty that reshaped his world. In the midst of intense treatments and long hospital stays, he found refuge and strength in writing. What began as journaling soon evolved into something much larger: A Man’s Story, a raw, honest, and profoundly human account of a young teenager’s fight with cancer, his reflections on life, identity, vulnerability, and hope.

The book launch, organized by Crossword in association with Make-A-Wish Foundation India, was not just a literary event, it was a celebration of life, dreams, and the healing power of words. Make-A-Wish India had granted Aman’s heartfelt wish to launch his book at a bookstore surrounded by those who value stories and strength. Aman stood tall and composed, reading an excerpt from his book and speaking candidly about the role writing played in helping him navigate his emotional and physical journey.

“I’m so excited to share this book,” Aman said with quiet confidence. “This is for all my friends who know what it’s like to fight this fight—you’re not alone anymore.”

The launch was attended by Aman’s family, friends, teachers, doctors, and supporters, along with representatives from Make-A-Wish India. The audience listened intently, many moved to tears, as Aman’s words painted a picture of resilience beyond his years. Following the reading, there was a book signing session, where attendees lined up to congratulate Aman and receive a signed copy of A Man’s Story a gesture that brought immense joy to the young author. Also present were Ravi Wazir, a seasoned business consultant and author in the hospitality space, and Dr. Shefali Batra, a psychiatrist, mindfulness coach, and medical entrepreneur and author. Their presence reinforced the evening’s theme of resilience, healing, and the power of storytelling.

Crossword Bookstores and Make-A-Wish Foundation India were honored to partner for this extraordinary moment an event that reaffirms the power of dreams, storytelling, and the indomitable human spirit.
