Amritsar Police Dismantles Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Operation, Arrests Two Suspects

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police successfully dismantled a cross-border narco-smuggling operation, apprehending two suspects and seizing Rs 21,800 in drug-related cash. This development was confirmed by a police officer on Thursday. The operation marked a crucial step in combating drug trafficking in the region.

Details from the Investigation

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the police recovered a total of 7 kilograms and 630 grams of heroin during the operation. Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in communication with a handler based in Dubai using virtual numbers to coordinate the smuggling of heroin across borders. The handler played a significant role in orchestrating the delivery and distribution of the narcotics.

Links to Wider Drug Networks

The DGP commented that the handler is also associated with various other narcotics networks and is connected to a major case involving the recovery of 43 kilograms of heroin. In light of these developments, a First Information Report has been filed at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are further investigating both the antecedents and additional links involved in this trafficking network.

Ongoing Crackdown on Narcotics in Punjab

On the same day, Punjab Police initiated ‘Operation Prahaar-2,’ a statewide campaign targeting organized crime, which resulted in the arrest of over 1,200 individuals linked to criminal activities. This operation is part of a broader initiative entitled ‘Gangstran Te Vaar,’ aimed at eradicating gang influence from the state.

Operation Details and Oversight

Police teams conducted approximately 2,760 raids targeting sites associated with wanted criminals throughout Punjab. ‘Operation Prahaar-2’ was officially launched by DGP Gaurav Yadav following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Senior police officials have been overseeing operations in various districts, ensuring thorough execution of the crackdown.
