Mukesh Chhabra and Bosco Martis Launch Digital-First Talent Hunt

The CSR Journal Magazine

A talent hunt entitled The Big Break has been introduced to revolutionise the traditional audition process by moving it into the digital domain. This initiative, spearheaded by casting director Mukesh Chhabra and choreographer Bosco Martis, aims to consolidate three artistic disciplines—acting, singing, and dancing—on a unified platform. The call for entries was opened on August 5 and invites participants from all over India. The project has been developed in collaboration with format creator Rajiv Lakshman and is produced by BARD, aiming to capture the interest of aspiring artists.

Innovative Approach to Auditions

Contrary to conventional talent shows that focus on one particular discipline and typically rely on television auditions, The Big Break incorporates modern digital platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. Participants can showcase their talents by sending a collaboration request to the official @thebigbreakindia handle, accompanied by their performances, which can include monologues, songs, or dance routines. This setup is intended to enhance accessibility for performers using their personal devices.

Each day, the competition plans to accept and feature between 40 and 60 entries on its social media channels. Participants who are selected will progress through various competition stages, ultimately leading to an on-ground finale where winners will be unveiled. The competition promises to offer a fresh and inclusive platform catered to today’s digital generation, allowing talent to be evaluated based solely on merit.

Chhabra highlighted that accessibility is at the core of this initiative, stating that the aim is to bridge the gap between emerging artists and the entertainment industry. He believes that talent is widespread, and The Big Break seeks to streamline the path to success for aspiring performers.

Mentorship and Support for Emerging Talent

Chhabra is set to mentor the acting portion of The Big Break, drawing from his extensive experience in the casting sector. Marcis will oversee the dance segments, bringing his personal journey as a performer into the fold. He expressed that his own experiences with adversity have influenced the design of the platform. Martis noted that many talented individuals across India are still largely undiscovered, often performing in informal settings.

He articulated the goal of The Big Break as not just about securing a position in the show but also as an avenue for gifted performers to launch their professional careers. The initiative intends to provide opportunities and visibility to artists who may otherwise remain overlooked.

The competition will feature a dedicated panel for the singing category that will include recognised Bollywood artists and composers, with further announcements expected regarding the names involved.

Progressing Through the Competition

Once participants pass through the initial selection phase, they will be invited to Mumbai for the next stages of the competition. Contenders will undergo training and engage in weekly competitive episodes as well as interactive mentorship sessions. This approach aims to refine the talents of participants while giving them valuable exposure.

Aside from the competition, there are possibilities for successful singers to collaborate with BLM Music, Martis’ record label, for future projects. Original music produced during The Big Break will also be released through this label. Rajiv Lakshman remarked that the digital-first strategy was integral to developing the show’s concept, emphasising its innovative structure designed specifically for online platforms.

The culmination of The Big Break will be a grand on-ground finale, shared digitally, ensuring that the journey of talent discovery remains a core part of the entertainment experience. This new initiative aims to foster a vibrant community for aspiring artists, blending modern technology with traditional talent showcasing.
