The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 28, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led an extensive roadshow in Guwahati, Assam, attracting substantial crowds as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ramped up its campaign in preparation for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Supporters gathered along the streets, eagerly awaiting a glimpse of the minister, who engaged with the audience by showering flower petals to express gratitude for their support and to energize party workers.

Dynamic Political Climate in Assam

The vibrant display of political strength occurs amid a lively campaign atmosphere in the northeastern state. The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies for April 9, with vote counting to take place on May 4. The current BJP administration, led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, aims to secure a third consecutive term in office. In contrast, the Congress Party is strategizing to reclaim power.

Chief Minister Sarma’s Contest

Chief Minister Sarma will contest elections from his traditional Jalukbari constituency. The ongoing campaign reflects the urgency and intensity with which both major parties are approaching the electoral process.

Amit Shah’s Press Conference in Kolkata

Earlier on the same day, Shah held a press conference in Kolkata, where he launched a pointed critique of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and unveiled the BJP’s chargesheet against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. During this conference, Shah accused Banerjee of utilizing “victim card” politics, asserting that she has consistently employed this strategy to garner public sympathy during elections. He stated that citizens of Bengal have become aware of these tactics.

Upcoming Polls in West Bengal

West Bengal is set to conduct its elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The results for both the Assam and West Bengal elections are anticipated to be announced on May 4. This political season marks a crucial period for parties as they attempt to sway public opinion and mobilize voter turnout in their favor.
