Air India Express Launches Flights From Thiruvananthapuram To Riyadh And Bahrain

The CSR Journal Magazine

Air India Express will start direct flights from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport to Riyadh and Bahrain on October 27, 2026. This announcement signifies an expansion of the airport’s connectivity with the Gulf region. The airport authority revealed that bookings for both routes are now open, further enhancing travel options for passengers.

The direct connection to Riyadh is intended to address a long-term request for a non-stop service between Thiruvananthapuram and the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is anticipated that these flights will be especially beneficial for the substantial expatriate community from southern Kerala and neighbouring Tamil Nadu, who work in Saudi Arabia.

The Riyadh flights are scheduled to operate three times weekly, specifically on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Additionally, they will complement the existing daily Air India Express services to Dammam, thus providing a comprehensive network for travellers heading to Saudi Arabia.

Details Of The Bahrain Service And Current Operations

The newly announced Bahrain flights will operate twice each week, on Thursdays and Saturdays. This route is already partially served by daily flights operated by Gulf Air, but the addition of Air India Express is expected to contribute further to the travel options available. Passengers will benefit from increased frequency and choice.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport currently experiences substantial air traffic, with over 250 movements weekly directed towards various Gulf destinations. Popular routes include Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait, and Dammam. This high passenger volume reflects the airport’s significance as a travel hub in the region.

The airport is managed by TRV Kerala International Airport Limited, a special purpose vehicle under Adani Airport Holdings Limited, which is a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises. The management of operations aims to enhance connectivity and cater to the growing travel demand in the area.

Significance Of Enhanced Connectivity For Kerala

The introduction of Air India Express flights to Riyadh and Bahrain is poised to broaden the international network of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. These enhancements are deemed critical for strengthening air links between Kerala and various Gulf regions, particularly to facilitate ease of travel for expatriates.

This increased connectivity will not only benefit individual travellers but is also expected to support trade and cultural exchange between the regions. The convenience of direct flights allows for more seamless journeys for those visiting family, conducting business, or seeking employment opportunities.

With ongoing developments in air travel capacity at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, it is evident that strategic measures are being implemented to elevate its status as a key infrastructural asset in Southern India. The local and expatriate communities are likely to respond positively to these new flight options, enhancing their travel experience and promoting accessibility.
