Wishes and Blessings, a non-profit organization committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities, in collaboration with Wellbeing Action and Research Initiative (WARI), hosted a seminar at Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University to observe World Mental Health Day. The seminar’s principal objective was to raise awareness about mental health issues, aiming to combat the casual use of terms like “trauma” and “depression” and dispel common misconceptions regarding the expected behaviours of individuals facing these challenges.
In today’s society, discussions about mental health have become increasingly prevalent, yet the understanding and empathy surrounding these issues remain incomplete. Founder and President of Wishes and Blessings DrGeetanjali Chopra emphasized the need to shed light on the complexities of mental health and its pervasive impact on society. She stated, “Mental health is an essential aspect of overall well-being, and it affects everyone in one way or another. Our seminar aims to create a space where individuals can discuss and learn about these issues openly, fostering a more compassionate and informed society.”
The seminar featured distinguished mental health professionals, psychologists, and individuals who have overcome their mental health challenges, sharing their experiences and expertise with an engaged audience. Key dignitaries who were part of an insightful panel discussion included Founder and President of Wishes and Blessings Dr Geetanjali Chopra, Founder of Wellbeing Action and Research Initiative Satjyor Gill, Consultant Clinical Psychologist of WARI Syeda Shahnaz and Clinical Psychologist, WARI, Nandini Garg. The event provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of various mental health issues and encouraged them to support those in need, promoting empathy and solidarity within the community.
Syeda Shahnaz, Clinical Expert Consultant, Wellbeing Action & Research WARI said, “Participating in this seminar was a genuine privilege and the enthusiastic audience, with their insightful queries, fostered a lively exchange of ideas. Together, we delved into crucial facets of mental health and overall well-being. I eagerly anticipate more thought-provoking discussions like this in the times ahead.”
The seminar also served as a platform for open discussions, encouraging attendees to ask questions, share their thoughts, and learn from the experiences of others. By addressing mental health head-on, Wishes and Blessings aims to facilitate an environment where individuals can seek help without any fear or stigma. The organization is determined to change community behavior at large towards those facing mental health challenges.
“I believe in the importance of creating such safe places where people, especially the youth, can come together to discuss mental health and its significance. It was an event where professionals came together to educate students and help raise awareness about mental health; which in the long run will help us create a healthy society,” mentioned Satjyot Gill, Founder of WARI.
