WPL 2027 Auction Scheduled for October 28 in Kochi, BCCI Confirms

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction is set to take place in Kochi on October 28. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively working on venue arrangements for the upcoming season. Details regarding the selected venues remain under consideration, following discussions by the WPL Governing Council during a recent virtual meeting.

In prior seasons, the WPL took place across various locations, with the 2026 edition featuring matches in Mumbai and Vadodara. The final that season was held at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru triumphed over Delhi Capitals by six wickets.

BCCI Considers Multiple Locations for WPL 2027

The BCCI is reportedly looking into potential venues, including Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, which has been identified as a candidate for WPL 2027. Furthermore, the BCCI is deliberating whether Vadodara or Varanasi will serve as the secondary host city. The Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara had previously hosted the finals, while the new stadium in Varanasi is under evaluation, contingent upon its completion by January 2027.

Before making a definitive decision, the BCCI plans to inspect the Varanasi venue to ascertain its readiness. Given that it is a newly constructed facility, there is also consideration for holding domestic or practice matches there as a part of the assessment process.

Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium remains a topic of discussion as a possible venue as well. However, securing the necessary permissions from local authorities may pose a challenge, according to sources. This stadium was previously used for WPL matches in 2024, which took place across Bengaluru and New Delhi.

Implications For The 2027 Season

The 2027 edition will mark the fifth season of the WPL, a league that has included five teams since its inception in 2023. As the schedule transitions to a January-February window starting in 2026, the BCCI is tasked with confirming venue selections prior to the release of the complete match schedule.

In the history of the WPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians are the most successful teams, each having won the title twice. The Delhi Capitals have reached the finals in every season but have yet to clinch a championship victory. The competition also includes teams like UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants, contributing to the league’s overall stature.

The emphasis on venue selection underscores the BCCI’s commitment to providing quality facilities for both players and fans as the league continues to grow. Further developments regarding the auction, including participation details and specific venue arrangements, are anticipated in the days leading up to the event.
