The Delhi Police Special Cell has apprehended a couple, Sahil and his wife Sameera, on allegations of engaging in espionage activities for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrests occurred as part of an ongoing investigation into espionage operations allegedly commencing in 2024. Authorities believe the couple was in contact with intelligence operatives based in Pakistan and provided sensitive information regarding Indian national security.

The police investigation revealed a network extending from Delhi to major Pakistani cities, including Karachi and Islamabad. It is reported that the couple received financial compensation from their handlers in Pakistan for their activities, raising concerns about the extent of their network.

Logistical Support to Foreign Operatives

Further investigations unveiled that some of these WhatsApp accounts were used to infiltrate Indian groups, where the operatives sought to extract crucial information. This operation indicated that the Pakistani intelligence operatives were not only communicating with the couple but were also in touch with alleged overground workers and sleeper cells within India through various messaging platforms.

The police reported that Sahil was reportedly tasked with the reconnaissance of military installations across India. He was allegedly responsible for recruiting individuals for espionage missions and gathering information about Indian Armed Forces personnel undergoing court-martial procedures. Authorities believe the espionage activities aimed to acquire sensitive details concerning Indian military operations.

Investigation and Arrest Details

The investigation initiated when the Special Cell received intelligence about logistical support being provided to terrorist organisations and their associates in India. The first arrest was made in Chand Bibi Camp, Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi, where Sahil was apprehended. A forensic examination of his mobile device reportedly revealed communications with agents from Pakistan.

Based on these initial findings, police progressed to identify Sameera’s involvement in the alleged espionage activities. Following her arrest, Sahil and Sameera’s mobile phones were seized, which contained communications with Pakistani operatives and details regarding their network in India.

Profiles of the Accused

Sahil, who was born in 2001, has a Bachelor’s degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Delhi. Prior to his arrest, he had worked with a lawyer and was considering pursuing an LLB degree. He reportedly left his job in June 2025 and had been unemployed since that time.

Sameera, born in 2005, completed her secondary education at Kanya Vidyalaya in Keshav Puram and later obtained a Bachelor’s degree through correspondence. Before her detention, she was employed at a call centre in Noida. The arrests have provided law enforcement with vital leads regarding the Pakistan-based intelligence network and its alleged contacts operating within India.
