The CSR Journal Magazine

Central government employees and pensioners awaiting information on the 8th Pay Commission have received new insights from the government. The Ministry of Finance provided updates in Parliament, clarifying the timeline and key elements concerning adjustments in pay scales, salaries, allowances, and pension structures. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary confirmed that the Commission was established on November 3, 2025, and is anticipated to submit its recommendations within an 18-month period.

According to the written statement, the government has formally constituted the 8th Central Pay Commission along with its Terms of Reference. The Commission’s work will encompass vital areas such as salaries, pensions, and allowances for the central government workforce. However, the financial impact on the Union Budget will only be assessed following a government review and approval of the proposals put forth by the Commission.

Operational Details of the Commission

The 8th Pay Commission has commenced its functions from its office in New Delhi. It comprises three appointed members, with Ranjana Prakash Desai serving as the chairperson. Additionally, Pulak Ghosh acts as a part-time member, while Pankaj Jain holds the position of member secretary. The Commission is actively seeking to recruit additional staff for various positions, including senior administrative roles, to facilitate its operations effectively.

Extension of Public Feedback Deadline

In a related announcement, the government has extended the timeframe for stakeholders to submit feedback on an 18-point questionnaire related to the 8th Pay Commission. The new deadline is now set for March 31, 2026, allowing ample opportunity for public input. Previously, this deadline had been March 16. All responses are required to be submitted through the MyGov portal, with the government emphasizing that other forms of submission, including email, postal mail, or PDF files, will not be accepted.

This public feedback is deemed significant as it is expected to shape the final recommendations of the Commission, influencing a considerable number of employees and pensioners across the nation. As the Commission continues its work, the focus remains on gathering valuable insights that could contribute to the development of a comprehensive roadmap in the near future.
