3 Armed Robbers Loot Rs 60 Lakh Gold from Shop in Chandni Chowk Daylight Heist

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a brazen mid-afternoon heist, three armed robbers made off with gold jewellery worth around Rs 60 lakh from a shop located in the Kinari Bazar area of Chandni Chowk, New Delhi. The robbery took place around 1:34 PM in Anar Wali Gali, a narrow street within one of the city’s busiest markets. The shop owner, Ashok Kumar Chaurasia, who has been in the jewellery business for over 30 years, stated that his son was managing the shop at the time of the incident.

Execution of the Robbery

The meticulously planned robbery unfolded alarmingly quickly. Eyewitnesses and the victim relayed a chilling account of the events: the trio entered the shop and immediately assaulted the salesman by striking him with a pistol butt. While one robber restrained the salesman, another used a cloth to gag the owner’s son to suppress any potential alarm. The third accomplice efficiently emptied the display cases of gold ornaments within a mere 14 seconds before they swiftly exited the scene.

Community Reaction and Security Concerns

The local business community has voiced significant outrage regarding the apparent security failures surrounding this incident. Pradeep Kumar Jain, President of the Gota Zari Association, criticized the Delhi Police, emphasizing that the robbery occurred despite a heightened alert in the city. “This incident raises serious questions about the safety of Delhi residents. It is unacceptable for such a daylight robbery to occur in Asia’s largest market while police are allegedly on high alert due to recent terror threats and bombings,” Jain articulated.

Police Response and Investigation Underway

In response to the incident, senior police officials arrived at the scene accompanied by forensic teams. Authorities are currently reviewing security footage from both inside the shop and nearby areas to trace the escape route of the assailants. A formal case has been lodged, and multiple investigative teams are working diligently to identify the suspects involved, given the rapid execution of the crime.

Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

In light of the robbery, local traders have expressed the urgent need for increased police patrols in the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, which are home to thousands of businesses dealing in high-value items. The community seeks to ensure better protection for shop owners and customers in the bustling market, highlighting a growing concern over safety in the area.
