Woman Accuses Jana Sena MLA Arava Sridhar of Sexual Assault, Forced Abortions

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman government employee in Andhra Pradesh has accused Jana Sena Party MLA Arava Sridhar of sexually assaulting her over an extended period under the promise of marriage and forcing her to undergo multiple abortions. The allegations surfaced through a video statement circulated widely on social media, triggering political and public attention.

According to the woman, the alleged exploitation began soon after Sridhar was elected MLA from the Railway Koduru constituency in the 2024 Assembly elections. She claimed that she initially approached the legislator for work-related assistance, following which he allegedly began threatening and sexually exploiting her.

Claims of Repeated Assault and Coercion

In the video, the woman alleged that Sridhar took her to isolated locations in a car and sexually assaulted her multiple times. She claimed that she became pregnant several times over the past year and was forced to undergo as many as five abortions. The woman further alleged that the MLA threatened her family and warned her that her job and safety would be at risk if she refused.

She stated that Sridhar allegedly contacted her husband and pressured him to divorce her, promising that he would marry her afterward. The woman said she initially resisted terminating her pregnancy but eventually gave in due to sustained threats and intimidation.

MLA Denies Charges, Calls Allegations Fabricated

Arava Sridhar has categorically denied all allegations, calling them false, fabricated, and part of a deliberate smear campaign. In a video response, the MLA claimed that deepfake content and misinformation were being circulated to damage his reputation.

Sridhar said that he had served as a sarpanch earlier and challenged critics to produce evidence of wrongdoing during his public life. He alleged that his family, including his mother, had filed a police complaint months ago citing harassment and said he would pursue legal action against those responsible.

Women’s Commission Takes Cognisance

While the police have not yet registered a formal case, Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja confirmed that she has spoken to the woman and taken note of the allegations. Officials indicated that further legal steps may follow based on inquiries and evidence.
