What is the Mother and Child Tracking System ?

The CSR Journal Magazine

The MCTS, or the Mother and Child Tracking System, is a web-based system designed to monitor and ensure effective healthcare for pregnant women and children up to the age of five. The system tracks individuals by name for healthcare purposes.

The ultimate aim of the MCTS is to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. The system can be put to best use in rural areas, where the unavailability and inaccessibility of healthcare sometimes lead to the death of a woman during childbirth.

According to the government think tank NITI Aayog, the system collects area-specific data of infants and pregnant women. Then, areas having less availability of healthcare are identified, and smooth delivery of healthcare services like vaccination, diagnostic tests, etc., is ensured.

On an estimate, there are 97 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births in India. This means that the country loses around a hundred pregnant women owing to a lack of proper healthcare facilities during the time of delivery.

For this very reason, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare created a national portal in collaboration with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to provide a single-window access to all governmental facilities necessary for a pregnant woman.

The implementation and usage of this portal is a completely different topic, but this portal is definitely crucial in saving many lives.
