“Was Haunted by Spirits”: Grandnephew of J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Dies by Suicide

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident Aarav Mishra, a 16-year-old Class 11 student was found dead by suicide at his Kanpur residence on Sunday evening. The deceased was grandnephew of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The incident has shocked the community and drawn attention to the growing mental-health challenges faced by teenagers.

Incident During Chhath Puja

At the time of the incident, Aarav’s parents, Alok and Divya Mishra, were in Bhagalpur to observe Chhath Puja, while his sister was at college. Aarav was home with his grandmother, who discovered his room locked when she called him for dinner. Neighbours helped break open the door, where the boy was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Police were informed immediately.

A Haunting Note Left Behind

Investigators recovered a handwritten note in which Aarav claimed he was being harassed by “spirits” that urged him to either harm his family or end his own life. Kohna Station House Officer Vinay Tiwari confirmed: “We recovered a note from the scene referring to harassment by ‘spirits’. The case is being treated as suicide. Further investigation is underway.”

Family members revealed that Aarav had earlier confided in his sister about seeing unknown figures that threatened him. Believing it to be stress or imagination, they had not sought medical help, a decision they now deeply regret.

Police Probe and Mental-Health Inquiry

Police are examining Aarav’s mobile phone, laptop, and social-media accounts to rule out external influence or online manipulation. Experts are also assessing whether the boy may have been experiencing hallucinations or severe anxiety.
A senior officer said, “We are not ruling out psychological distress or the influence of disturbing online content.”

Family and Political Connections

Aarav’s father, Alok Mishra, is a Kanpur-based businessman and the nephew of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, who has not issued an official statement yet. Senior BJP leaders visited the family home on Monday to express condolences.

A Bright Student Lost Too Soon

Friends and teachers at Jain International School, where Aarav studied, described him as a bright, soft-spoken student who scored 97 percent in his high-school exams. His death has left classmates and teachers devastated, highlighting how even high achievers can silently struggle with inner turmoil.
