Villagers Brutally Assault Man, Force him to Marry his Aunt Over Alleged Affair in Bihar

A very disturbing case of mob violence has come to light from Bihar’s Supaul. A 24-year-old man was brutally assaulted and forced to “marry” his aunt. This comes after being accused of having an illicit relationship with her.

The incident occurred on July 4 in Jeevchhapur. This area comes under the jurisdiction of Bhimpur police station.

Victim Allegedly Kidnapped, Beaten and Coerced

The victim, Mithlesh Kumar Mukhiya was allegedly kidnapped by a group of villagers. He was then taken to a house belonging to his uncle, Shivchandra Mukhiya. According to a police report and a viral video of the incident, the young man was tied up and beaten with rods.

His aunt, Rita Devi is wife of Shivchandra and mother to a four-year-old. She was also brought to the scene and assaulted by villagers. Both Mithilesh Mukhiya and Rita Devi were brutally assaulted by the villagers with iron rods.

Forced Vermilion Ritual Captured on Video

Reports suggest, after the beating, the mob reportedly forced Mithlesh to apply vermillion (sindoor) to Rita Devi’s forehead in a symbolic act of marriage. The assault and forced ritual were recorded on video.

The video of the incident was widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage. Both sustained severe injuries and were taken to Hospital for treatment.

Two Accused Arrested

Bhimpur Station House Officer (SHO) Mithilesh Pandey confirmed that the police received a tip-off. The police reached the location soon after the incident. However upon arrival the accused had already fled the scene.

The police filed an FIR based on a complaint filed by Mithlesh’s father, Ramchandra Mukhiya. Eight individuals were named in the report, and two of them have been apprehended so far.

“Both persons have sustained grievous injuries in the attack that took place on July 4 in Bhimpur police station area”, SHO Mithilesh Pandey said.

He added, “A police party had reached the spot soon after the incident, following a tip-off. However, all the accused had fled the spot by then. Later, an FIR was lodged following a complaint from the injured man’s father. Eight persons were named, out of whom two have been caught.”

Family Members Also Assaulted for Intervening

The victim’s father, Ramchandra Mukhiya alleged that he and his wife were also beaten . This comes as they tried to intervene during the attack on their son. Mithlesh sustained severe injuries to his back, neck, and hands. He was initially treated at Narpatganj Hospital and later transferred to Araria Sadar Hospital due to his critical condition.

Due to the severity of their injuries, both Mithlesh and Rita Devi were referred to Biratnagar in neighboring Nepal for advanced medical care.

Authorities Hunt for Remaining Accused

Meanwhile, Police efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining six accused. The remaining accused are identified as residents of Jeevchhapur and Belaganj. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to justice in what they described as a deeply troubling and illegal act.
