Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan is currently embroiled in controversy following a formal complaint lodged by his first wife, Ranjana Jha. The complaint, filed on February 10 at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul, Bihar, accuses Narayan and others of serious misconduct spanning several decades. Ranjana alleges that a surgical procedure was performed without her knowledge or consent.
Background of the Allegations
Ranjana, a 61-year-old daughter of Chandrakant Jha, claims to have married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984, adhering to traditional Hindu customs. Following their marriage, Narayan relocated to Mumbai in 1985 to advance his music career. Ranjana states that she later learned through media reports of his subsequent marriage to another woman, Deepa Narayan, which she alleges he misled her about during their conversations.
Specific Accusations Regarding Medical Procedures
In her complaint, Ranjana recounts a visit to a Delhi hospital in 1996, where she alleges that Udit, along with his brothers, Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, took her for what was presented as medical treatment. She claims that during this visit, her uterus was removed without her consent or awareness, and further alleges that Deepa Narayan was present at the hospital at the time. Ranjana also accuses Narayan of neglect and mistreatment, claiming she was barred from entering his Mumbai residence in 2006, and faced insults from family members during a visit to relatives in Nepal. Despite having approached the Family Court and the Women’s Commission, she feels her complaints have not been adequately addressed.
Statements and Ongoing Investigation
In remarks to the press, Ranjana expressed her frustration, stating, “You all know that Udit Narayan ji repeatedly makes promises but does not fulfil them. I deserve justice.” A police officer has confirmed that the complaint is currently under investigation, and a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered as more details unfold.
