The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of Telangana inaugurated the newly rejuvenated Nalla Cheruvu lake located in Kukatpally, reaffirming the state government’s dedication to restoring various water bodies within Hyderabad to tackle impending urban challenges.

During the inauguration, Reddy highlighted the government’s resolve to rejuvenate lakes, ponds, and tanks, which are vital for alleviating flood risks and combating environmental degradation in the city.

Focus on Environmental Conservation

In his speech, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of conserving natural resources, especially as metropolitan areas undergo rapid urbanization. “We must restore the glory of the Musi River and preserve other water bodies to shield the city from future flood threats,” he stated. Reddy indicated that the government aims to rejuvenate all tanks within the CURE region, emphasizing plans to remove any encroachments on these crucial environmental assets.

Assurance for Affected Residents

Addressing concerns about the demolition of structures near water bodies, Reddy assured that the state government would ensure justice for residents who constructed homes in proximity to lakes and ponds. This commitment comes even as the authorities proceed with removing encroachments as part of the broader lake restoration and urban development projects.

Community Support for Water Body Restoration

Reddy responded to criticism surrounding the demolition drives related to water body restoration, asserting that the government remains focused on long-term ecological sustainability and urban development. He noted the positive reception from local residents towards the restored Nalla Cheruvu, stating, “We remained silent despite criticism during the revival of water bodies. Today, we see smiles and appreciation from the community following the restoration of Nalla Cheruvu.”

Development of Public Amenities

During his address, the Chief Minister also announced plans for developing public facilities around the newly restored lakes, which include dedicated stalls for women vendors and playgrounds for children. This initiative is expected to enhance the community’s engagement with the water body while promoting local economic activities.

Encouragement for Civic Engagement

Reddy encouraged residents to bring their civic concerns to his attention, assuring them that the government would allocate sufficient funds for various developmental works. He also mentioned that development funds would be distributed across all Assembly constituencies within the Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency, without regard for political affiliations. This commitment underscores the government’s approach to fostering inclusive urban development and addressing the needs of its constituents.
