Taylor Swift’s Ex-Boyfriend Conor Kennedy Placed on International Wanted List

The CSR Journal Magazine

Conor Kennedy, the son of US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has been reportedly placed on Russia’s international wanted list for his involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Basmanny District Court in Moscow has issued an order for Kennedy’s “arrest in absentia,” accusing him of serving as a mercenary for the Ukrainian armed forces, as reported by Russian state media outlet TASS.

Should Russian authorities manage to apprehend him, Kennedy could face a prison sentence ranging from seven to ten years. This situation has emerged amidst increasing tensions in the region and the ongoing military engagements between Ukraine and Russia.

At 32 years old, Kennedy disclosed his clandestine journey to Kyiv via an Instagram post made in October 2022, where he indicated he had joined Ukraine’s International Legion to fight against the Russian invasion. He mentioned that he had only disclosed his whereabouts to one individual in Ukraine and a second person in Kyiv regarding his actual name.

Motivations for Joining the Conflict

Kennedy expressed his profound emotional response to the events unfolding in Ukraine over the previous year, stating, “I wanted to help.” He explained how he learned about the International Legion and made the decision to enlist, visiting the embassy the very next day. Kennedy insisted on keeping his plans confidential to avoid causing worry among friends and family.

Despite lacking prior military experience and describing himself as “not a great shot,” Kennedy believed his capacity for carrying heavy loads and his eagerness to learn would be beneficial. He conveyed his willingness to lose his life in the conflict, and the legion subsequently deployed him to the northeastern front.

Kennedy’s enlistment was kept from his father, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and stepmother Cheryl Hines. Instead, he communicated that he had chosen not to work at a Los Angeles law firm that summer, which raised suspicions later when his family discovered charges on his credit card statements from Poland and Ukraine.

Reactions from Family and Public Profile

Following his return from Ukraine, RFK Jr. expressed a mix of emotions upon learning about his son’s actions, categorising his feelings as uncertainty or even anger. However, Kennedy defended his choices by quoting his father’s teachings about standing up for one’s beliefs. RFK Jr. has openly acknowledged his pride in his son’s decisions while also indicating a divergence in their perspectives regarding the war.

Regarding his personal life, Conor Kennedy briefly dated pop singer Taylor Swift in 2012, a relationship that made headlines at the time but ended after a few months. He recently married Brazilian singer-songwriter Giulia Be this year, further transitioning his public image.

Kennedy has since returned to his legal studies at Georgetown University and is currently employed as an associate attorney at Wisner Baum in their Los Angeles office. The implications of his actions have attracted attention, especially as other foreign volunteers have also found themselves on Russia’s wanted list, including US citizen Ingram Asbill Tracy James and British citizen Shorney Joseph Richard Ryan.
