The Samajwadi Party (SP) has dissolved its organisational units in the Etah and Kasganj districts following a clash between senior party leaders that occurred in the presence of party chief Akhilesh Yadav. The dispute arose during a meeting held in Lucknow on 20 September 2026, which aimed to strategise for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections. Reports indicate that about 250 senior leaders and party office-bearers attended this crucial meeting when tensions escalated between party members.

The altercation reportedly began when Manjeet Yadav, a senior member and nephew of former Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council chairman Ramesh Yadav, took issue with comments made by Jugendra Singh Yadav, a former district panchayat chairman. What began as a disagreement soon devolved into a heated confrontation, with both parties exchanging verbal insults in front of Akhilesh Yadav and other senior officials of the party.

Consequences of the Incident

In light of the dispute, the SP decided to dissolve the district executive committees for both Etah and Kasganj, effective immediately. Additionally, all other frontal organisations in these two districts were similarly disbanded. This decisive action illustrates the party’s intent to maintain unity and discipline among its ranks as it ramps up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

The political landscape in these districts is significant, as the ruling BJP holds all four Assembly seats in Etah, while in Kasganj, the BJP controls three out of four seats, leaving only one Assembly seat for the SP. Akhilesh Yadav’s Response

Following the incident, Akhilesh Yadav addressed the gathered leaders, acknowledging the conflict, yet urging unity among party members. He remarked on the impact of wealth and arrogance on political dynamics, stating, “These things happen, it’s okay. This is all because of the arrogance that comes with money. Remember, whoever becomes too wealthy will eventually leave you behind. Now, let’s work together.” Such comments underline the importance the party chief places on collaboration and cohesion as the SP prepares for impending electoral challenges.
