A shocking case of betrayal and abuse has come to light from Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra, raising serious concerns about women’s safety in intimate relationships. A 28-year-old woman from Yavatmal has alleged that her long-time partner, under the guise of love, not only refused to marry her after she became pregnant but also caused her to miscarry by secretly mixing abortion pills in her food.
According to the FIR lodged at Hinjawadi Police Station, the woman had been in a relationship with Asarsh Valmik Meshram, a tech professional, since 2018. The couple had met during their college days and had been together for several years. The woman claims she believed the relationship would eventually lead to marriage. However, her world turned upside down when she informed Meshram of her pregnancy, only to be met with denial and rejection.
The situation worsened during Meshram’s birthday celebration on July 3. The victim has alleged that he mixed abortion pills in rabdi, a traditional milk-based dessert, which led to her miscarriage. She later filed a complaint against him, accusing him of sexual exploitation, deception, and forcing an abortion without her consent.
Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of Hinjawadi Police Station confirmed the incident and stated that the couple was indeed in a long-term relationship. A medical examination of the victim has been ordered, and an investigation is currently underway. “We are verifying all claims, and strict action will be taken against the accused,” Pandhare said.
The victim also presented evidence indicating that Meshram had been involved with multiple women, allegedly exploiting them under the false promise of marriage. The case has been registered under IPC sections 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without the woman’s consent), and other relevant provisions.
