IIT Madras Wadhwani School Launches AI Studio to Develop Startups

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI) at IIT Madras is set to establish an AI Studio aimed at transforming research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science into successful startups. The venture will collaborate with researchers, academic entrepreneurs, and external innovators to advance AI concepts from research stages to commercially viable enterprises. Key areas of focus will include health AI, education AI, responsible AI, and AI for Indic languages.

The first cohort will have access to essential resources such as seed funding, cloud and computer credits, and the WSAI research laboratories and data. Participants will benefit from mentoring by faculty and industry experts, along with assistance in identifying product-market fit for their ideas. The programme will also introduce an Entrepreneur-in-Residence and create structured pathways for ventures to secure further funding and official spin-outs via the IIT Madras Incubation Cell ecosystem.

Eligibility and Application Process for the AI Studio

The AI Studio invites a diverse group of applicants, including IIT Madras and WSAI researchers, academic founders from other institutions, and external entrepreneurs pursuing projects in AI, machine learning, or data science. The application process consists of two stages; the first will include a training programme and bootcamp available to a broader applicant pool. A select group of ventures will then advance to the full studio programme.
