The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday redefined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity, and condemned terrorism, stating it an attack on humanity. Modi pointed out that in the recent Pahalgam attack, India has had a scourge of terrorism and for the past 4 decades the situation is the same, attacks have left countless mothers bereaved and children orphaned.

Modi opposes terrorism

While raising the issue of terrorist attack, Modi said, “At this hour, the friendly nations who stood by us, we are grateful to them. This attack was not just an assault on India’s soul, but also a challenge to those who believe in humanity.” This remark was made during the opening session of SCO summit, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif is also attending, and the session is being chaired by the Chinese President Xi Jinping. In an apparent reference to Pakistan, Modi said, “At this moment, one question is normal: is it acceptable to us that some countries openly support terrorism, We have to say this in clear words that there are no double standards in terrorism. We have to oppose terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. This is our responsibility towards mankind.”

Talking on collectivity, Modi said, “India has always believed that strong connectivity is not just for commerce, but also opens doors for trust and development.” He further shared that India is currently closely working on Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor, which will give access to Central Asia and Afghanistan. Hinting on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said that the connectivity efforts must respect territorial integrity and sovereignty. “Connectivity, that by-passes sovereignty, loses trust and meaning,” he said.

New Opportunities for young minds

Modi proposed new areas of cooperation like traditional medicine, digital inclusion, and Buddhist heritage. He suggested bringing together scientists, start-ups and scholars for further progress. India put a proposal for promoting people-to-people ties through dialogue through art, literature, culture and tradition. He even invited all countries to join hands in India’s development journey.

Before the SCO meeting, PM Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and had a conversation, this image has been widely circulated and the US administration, particularly White House Trade Envoy Peter Navarro has criticized and raised concerns.
